Toys and Games Reviews of MegalandCustomer Review: Fun, but potentially dangerous - reported to CPSC Summary: 3 Stars
Megaland is indeed a lot of fun. Our 12 month-old twins absolutely love it, and we always find new ways to play with it. However, be careful. With rough play the metal strips can separate and cause a severe injury. Below is the text of a recent complaint I made to the CPSC:
Megaland by Playhut is a collection of three pop-up tents and 2 pop-up tunnels. The strips of flexible metal used to give the objects their shape and pop-up nature can separate, leaving two very sharp ends that could easily cause a laceration or severe eye injury. Both of our tunnels broke in this way, and the ends of the metal strips pierced the fabric covering. Fortunately, we noticed this in time and threw them both away before any harm could ensue. My guess is that this only occurs with rough play (e.g., children jumping on the tunnels and compressing the strips); however, the fact is that children play rough, and our tunnels broke after only two weeks.
Customer Review: A great toy, but........ Summary: 3 Stars
We got this playhut for our 2 1/2 year old twins for Christmas. It was very easy to put together, but I noticed immediately that there would be problems. The ball pit is very shallow (3 inches deep) and only connects to the next segments with 4 small velcro strips (one on each side of the circle). It only comes with 50 small balls...which is a blessing in disguise because the ball pit is so shallow, the balls constantly fall out between the segments. After only 3 days of limited play, one of the velcro tabs has torn off...easily fixed with needle and thread, but still....All in all its a great toy. The kids LOVE it, but I wish it attached to the other segments a little better. I'm planning on hand sewing velcro all around the segments so that the balls don't fall out as easily. Time consuming, yes, but it will save me time later on. Your kids will love it, but plan on buying more balls for it and picking them up after your kids play with it.
Customer Review: Fun, colorful, & easy Summary: 5 Stars
One of the best things about this playland is that it is extremely portable. It fold down in seconds and is so small and light! It is also pleasantly big so my brother will not get bored of it right away. Although they advertise that there are a lot of different ways to arrange it though, all you can really change is the order of the tunnels and huts. There aren't any openings on the sides so one after the other is all the variety there is. Still, it's long and big enough to fit a few kids in there. My biggest problem with it is that it has no way to fasten the pieces together. You pretty much have to keep pushing the huts/tunnels together because there is no velcro or anything to keep them together. It's a bit annoying but not enough to where I wouldn't recommend it to someone else. It's a great price for such a big product and I can see many uses for it that can engage a child's imagination for a longer time than most toys.
Customer Review: Be Cautious with this 3 Stars
Based on the reviews posted on Amazon.com, parents with children from 6 months and up were purchasing and loving this toy. So, I bought the "mega playland" for my son's 1 yr Birthday!
We had lots of fun with it. It's very interactive for multiple children to play or hide and seek with parent/s.
But, to my shock last night, my 18 month old son's head got stuck in one of the holes under the ball hoop of the hut.
It was frantic! He was crying and hurting! And, there was not very much room to cut through without cutting him. After, 3 minutes of struggle, we managed to get him out, but it was very dangerous.
I'm wondering why Playhut didn't make the holes bigger or smaller b/c it will fit a child's head perfectly and then it takes a specific angel to get out.
We immediatly took apart that middle section to prevent it from happening again and contacted Amazon regarding the incident.
Customer Review: My kids love it... Summary: 5 Stars
.. and my kids are not children, but ferrets! Many ferret owners have discussed with others the fun a ferret can have in a ball-pit, but since their claws will break them, people tend to use cardboard boxes with plastic eggs or ball-pit balls. No such issues with this toy! And of course, my neices are hideously jealous of it.. .. it is very easy to break down flat; looping it into the bags *feels* funny because it feels like you're going to break something, but eventually with enough pressure it twists instantly into the right shape to fit into the bags. Honestly I don't think there is any way for anything in it to break - I've had nine hyper animals climbing all over it nails and all and it's held up for months now; not to mention that at night, when the ferrets are tucked away in their cages, the cats decide it is now their toy and use as a staging ground to leap on one another.
