Purchased 2 of these crap o scopes today for Christmas presents. Wanted to try it out before I gave it as a gift. Toy is a gimmick. The magnification on the microscope is worse than a cereal box magnifying glass. The web cam is just that, a web cam. Once the web cam is hooked up to the microscope then the fun really starts - if you like staring at a grey, blurry image on your screen.
These are going back to Toys R Us tomorrow for a full refund. I would not recommend this toy to any age group.

This microscope is good for beginners, but has a few draw backs. The light is very small and has no dimmer control. This causes problems with objects that are not the perfect thickness. If it's too thick the light will not get through and if it's too thin, well all you see is light. The pre-made slides that it comes with are entertaining and work well. There is also only one control for zooming instead of having two one for slow zooming. Overall though it is a good toy but not a good scientific tool.Customer Review: Far from what I expected

I bought this microscope for my kid's pre-K school. The instruction is very poorly written. Teacher couldn't figure out what it means. I took it back and spent more than an hour and finally figured it out. The visual quality is not very good and the frame is too small. Teacher ended up giving up showing kids the slides she intended to show them and went for a cheap version of the magnifying view instrument.Customer Review: My son loves his new microscope.

I got this for my 8 year old son and the whole family has enjoyed it. I have had to do most of the focusing so far, but I think he will get the hang of it as we use it more. It is a great, educational activity to do together and then independently. The microsope works great!! My husband and I are both educators and I recommend this item for any child interested in science.Customer Review: Digital Microscope misleading

Although this product is made for children 6 and up we found it to be very hard to focus. Even the adults had a difficult time with the focusing. Read the box carefully. On the bottom of the box, in very small letters it mentions that the web cam and software are for PCs only. Will not work with a mac. Wish I had known that before purchasing for a birthday gift.
