This toy is lovely. The tones are beautiful (not abrasive) and are the C, B, and A notes that you would play "Mary Had a Little Lamb." I'm not sure what was wrong with the drum from one of the other reviews, because ours seems to be very durable. I have a baby less than a year old and he rolls it, throws it, and beats it to high Heaven with that little rubber mallet...not a problem yet! We love this little drum! My son, who is 9 mos, loves to hit things, so I figured that he would enjoy this drum.
He was so excited at the sound this made the instant he hit the top, he looked at me with a big smile! My husband

We finally bought this for our son after he played with it at friends' houses for over a year. I am not a fan of noisy toys, but this drum makes a couple of different soft tones when hit with the mallet. From what I have observed of my son and his friends, this toy is very sturdy, and is great as soon as they can sit up, but still remains a popular choice now they they are two.Customer Review: not just another toy drum

this drum is tympanic, there are multiple tones to it. it is extremely durable, and I have only been impressed and pleased with this fine toy maker. I own other toys by this company and they are all equally well made. the drum itself is safe for even younger than recommended age, with supervision of course. My 6 mo. old laughs as he hits it with the rubber mallet it came with.Customer Review: Great Drum

This is a well made, safe, non-toxic, sustainable solid wood drum. It has a nice tone -- not too loud-- that is pleasant to the ear and loud enough for the kids. We have several drums and this is our favorite. Although the kids, especially the baby love the cymbal on the Plan Toys Band, those drums are nearly as satisfying to play or listen too.
