Toys and Games Reviews of Plan Toy Baby WalkerCustomer Review: Awesome toy, if it didn't fall over on my son :( Summary: 2 Stars
This is a wonderfully well-made, durable wooden walker. The option to adjust the rear wheel resistance is excellent, except when a young child attempts to pull it backward to walk with it again. In that case, the front of the walker tips upward and often falls. Also, if my one-year-old son put a little too much weight on the handle either from behind or attempting to reach it from the front of the walker, or tried to pull up on it, it toppled over with him or sideways onto him. (The handle of the walker is what would actually fall on him, as the base is too low to the ground to do so.) He hurt his lip pretty badly on the handle one of the times he fell. I understand this is "user error" but how can you explain proper use to a one-year-old? I think Plan Baby could compensate for this by weighting the base a little more to help prevent it from tipping so easily. As much as my son enjoyed pushing this toy around and playing with the wooden blocks, I had to return it because I couldn't stand to see him fall over any more.
The overall idea and design of the walker is great, but it needs modifications. I wanted to offer other moms (especially those with rambunctious little boys) an honest review of my experience. I'm truly disappointed that it didn't work out for us.
Customer Review: Just what the doctor ordered Summary: 5 Stars
At my son's nine-month well-baby visit the pediatrician recommended getting some sort of walker/push toy for our son because he was doing such a good job walking while holding one or both of an adult's hands. After doing a bunch of research into the different options I decided on the Plan Toy Baby Walker with blocks because it seemed well made, had adjustable wheel resistance for new walkers, didn't make noise, and was way cheaper than the wood walker-wagon options.
It arrived yesterday and when I got home from work we tried it out both in our home and on our dirt driveway. My son loved it! The wheel resistance adjustment was great because I could slow it down a little when used on our slick wood floors, but reduce the resistance when used on the slightly uneven terrain of our dirt drive. The walker is heavy and sturdy enough that he can't topple it too easily. It may not be stable enough for him to pull himself up, but since he hasn't figured that out yet, I'm not sure.
The only issue I have with it is that when it is set for less resistance there is a little knob in back that sticks out far enough that his foot gets caught every once in a while. We can easily replace the length of threaded rod with something shorter if it becomes a problem.
Customer Review: Nice and sturdy! Summary: 4 Stars
I chose this push toy after reading reviews of various push toys, some wood and some plastic. This is a solid, sturdy push toy with rubber on the wheels to protect our hardwood floors. What I didn't know about the toy before I bought it is that you can choose from two different angles for the handle! This is great because my 10-month old son needs the very upright position now so that when he pulls up on it to stand up it doesn't topple over on top of him. Later we'll be able to use the more angled position. We haven't let him play with the wooden blocks yet (he has a foam set for now), but they look like great blocks. The one thing I wish this push toy had is the option to have the wheels turn slower for when the little ones are just starting out. My son doesn't really use this as a push toy much yet because it rolls too easily for him to keep his balance right now. But he loves to sit next to it and roll it back and forth and put items on it and take them off. It would also be great to have the front wheels turn so it doesn't only go straight ahead, but I think all the push toys are like this.
Customer Review: Great buy! Summary: 5 Stars
PRO: My son is 11 mo and can't walk on his own yet, but is able to stand for short periods on his own. He is able walk and push this toy on his own with no trouble at all. This is a great quality toy! I must have spent hours of comparing walkers. This is the only one that has a resistance setting that prevents your child from going too fast and falling flat on his face. Also, the way the handle bar is installed helps to reduce tipping over. Not to mention the quality and dual function of being able to load, unload and build with the blocks and you can load them back any-which-way and they will fit! There's no specific order. The wheels are great too. They are rubber and grip well, unlike plastic wheels that come on others. I love it and so does my son!
CON: My only negative is that I wish the front wheels had an axel so he could turn the walker. He can only go forward and backwards, so he tends to get stuck when he hits a wall, but I didn't find any of them that did that. As he gets older i'm sure he'll figure it out.
Customer Review: Perfect toy for my little boy Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this just before my son was 8 months. He started crawling, and loved to "walk" around holding on to our fingers, so I quickly assembled the walker (super easy, just 2 screws to put in place to attach handle). He soon started pulling up, and loved (still loves) this walker. Occasionally he tried to get to it from the front and it falls over, but he is learning to only pull up using the back handle. My boy is not too heavy, so he doesn't have any problems with it being too light and falling over, although babies who are just learning to pull up may need a parent to hold down the front so it doesn't topple over. My son learned quickly, and now rarely has it fall over. I love that you can adjust the tension on the wheels so it doesn't fly across the room. I would certainly recommend this to a friend, and would buy it again in a heartbeat. It is very sturdy construction, and all the wooden block to play with are just a great added bonus in my mind....as my son hasn't even really been interested in them yet.
