Toys and Games Reviews of Deluxe Wood Mancala

Customer Review: Great for learning strategy
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a marvelous games for young minds to learn strategy and counting with. The game is deceptively simple which makes it appropriate for fairly young kids (5+) to be able to play. However, in order to do well at this game, kids need to think ahead -- not only to set up their future moves but also to think about how to prevent their opponent from getting some easy scores.

The board size of this version is pretty much perfect. It's large enouch that the stones can't get lost yet it's ability to fold in half makes it possible to bring along as a travel game; because it folds, the game pieces can be easily stored inside. (Note: like any game with game pieces, the stones/pits can be lost. The great thing with this game is that they can be easily replaced with beach pebbles if necessary.)

This game can be entertaining for hours. And, because there is some strategy, it is also fun for adults to play. We highly recommend this game.

Customer Review: Excellent Game for ALL Ages (Except for marble eaters)
Summary: 4 Stars

This isn't really for any specific age group. As long as no one eats the pieces, it's great for anyone. It's simple, as soon as you understand the basic rules.
What you have to do is try to get the most marbles in your slot. You pick up the pieces, keep going until they run out, then pick marbles from the next pile, then keep going until there's a blank space or you land on your slot. (In which you'd get a free turn, and if it's on a blank space on your side, you get whatever marbles are on the opposite hole.)
It does sound confusing, but you'll catch on quickly. You can buy these sets for $5 easily (I did) and they're really nice-looking too. Play by yourself and develop never-go-wrong strategies, like I did. It's a surefire plan to make you win!
I completely recommend this game ALL THE WAY. I don't really know what educational values it has, but it's super fun!

Customer Review: Mancala?
Summary: 5 Stars

You might be quick to ignore Mancala as you pass by the game isle of your local mega-store. After all, how fun can a game with a small board, a bunch of holes and some multi-colored gems be? Tremendous fun.

Mancala is under-rated in the gaming world, but fun to play for all ages. My daughter has been playing (and beating) Mancala with me since she was 5. While Mancala involves strategy, it is fast paced enough where the strategy does not become monotonous or repetitive.

No matter how I try to map out my future moves, my daughter still seems to beat me 33% of the time. Fun for every member of you house, from ages 5 to 105.

The quality of this product is extremely good for the price. The board is sturdy, and the glass marbles are not just cheap plastic. It is very possible for this game to last well over 20 years if taken proper care of.

Customer Review: A Great Game That the Whole Family Can Play!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is how I would rate this game:

Familys with kids over 5: 5 stars. This is a great game for familys to play.

Family's with children under 5: 3 stars. they may or they may not get the hang of it.

Familys with toddlers: 1 star. Very small parts that are easy to choke on.

I think this game is really good for the whole family. Even though only 2 people can play it it is still a good game. I like this game because you have to think about what you are going to do next.I love Stradigy games. That's also why I like it.It is also just flat out in your face fun. If I were you I would go buy this game. I LOVE IT!!!!!

Customer Review: Mancala is not only from Africa
Summary: 5 Stars

My Step-son has this Mancala set and he brought it over from his Mom's house to teach me how to play one day and I wasn't sure exactly how to play but after playing it several time I got to remember that Mancala is also played in the Philippines but it's called Sungka there. The rules are pretty much the same but this game is awesome and teaches you counting and thinking skills even at my age it's good to brush up on those skills. I recommend this game and I'll probably buy my own so I can play with my husband bcuz he's a pro at this game bcuz he played when he was a child in the Philippines.
