Toys and Games Reviews of Risk: Lord of the Rings EditionCustomer Review: best board game made Summary: 5 Stars
Before this I had never played "Risk" but now it's one of my favorite board games. The map shows middle earth(or at least most of it) in great detail, and even if it doesn't include Gondor or Mordor(though I hope they make an expansion) it is some great work There are four armies, 2 "good" forces and 2 "evil" forces. The adventure cards add a lot of fun to the game, but I didn't exactly like the rule where once the ring leaves the board the game is over because it doesn't let you plan out long strategic attacks, it's all a matter of seeing who gets the most territories in a "short"(about 2 hours) ammount of time, but the instruction manual includes the rule for original Risk, for those of us who have never played the game.Overall, this game is a must for any Lord of the Rings fans out there
Customer Review: Greatest Board Game Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
A couple of years ago, I played regular Risk all the time and loved the diplomacy, strategy, etc. to a point that no other board games seemed worthy of being played. The Lord of the Rings version adds a nicer board (physically and strategically), better pieces, very well refined rules (I love the idea of having leaders and strongholds- you must play it to understand what I mean), and it even comes with a ring replica. Beginners, beware!- you should probably play the original many times before playing this version- your strategy has to be sharp in order to win on this board, as continents are much more difficult to keep. Overall in my opinion and probably many others' the best board game of all time.
Customer Review: The wifes review, what the other reviewers missed Summary: 4 Stars
When I bought this for my husband at Christmas, I forgot that I would be the one that would have to play with him. 7 months later, I broke down and played with him.
What the other reviewers did not mention, is that the instruction book is 20 pages long. You need to read all 20 pages before playing, and in some places the rule book is incomplete along with confusing. We made up a few rules.
The games are also very long. Our first game was 4 hours, the second game was 3. You need to be very careful if you have dogs or babies, as the millon of tiny men will fall off the board at every bump or sneeze. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but Strategico is faster, easier, and funner.
Customer Review: LOTR fans & Stratgey Gamers will love this game! Summary: 4 Stars
The Lord of the Rings version of Risk is a great addition to any Strategy Gamer's collection. Both ways of playing described in the manual are a lot of fun. The character pieces are pretty well done. I don't have too much to say that hasn't been said in other reviews. I can say that the reviews posted are accurate and that the board should've been constructed as a 2 fold as opposed to the 4 fold method used. I do wish the game was comprised of all LOTR locations and not those just from the first 2 books. The game would be more enjoyable with the extra lands to conquer. Regardless of the 2 above critisisms, this game is great for kids and adults. A lot of fun for all.
Customer Review: New to Risk... Summary: 5 Stars
I have never played Risk before, infact the only game I've played any where near to this is Command and Conquer on Play Station. I had a great time playing this game and now I plan on purchasing it for my husband and I. So if you've never played Risk and are a fan of LOTR (even a small fan like me) this game would be fun. I don't think I'd like the regular Risk with countries and such. The board is the standard cardboard that board games come with, the pieces are plastic, be careful around small children, the pieces can be easily swallowed and/or lost. We waited for my three kids to go to bed before we played. Didn't want to lose concentration...lol.
