Toys and Games Reviews of Wits And Wagers

Customer Review: Fabulous family or party game
Summary: 5 Stars

We love this game and it works well with several families where there are mixed ages of children and adults. In the game, everyone answers a trivia question and then everyone shows their written answers. The answers are arrayed high to low and then everyone bets on which ones they think are right. You do not have to bet on your own answer. After seven questions, the player with the most poker chips wins.

The kids can play because even if they don't know the answer, they can bet on other people's answers.

We have had up to twenty people play. We just expand the game by using paper and pencil for additional players and creating two matching betting tokens for each additional player using things like coins, buttons, or two post-it notes cut down in size.

We have also taken this to two other game nights with other families, and they all loved it too. Great game!

Customer Review: Easy to Learn - Fun for Everyone!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got Wits and Wagers a year or two back and it's seen a lot of play-time with a wide variety of people. I can say that I have never come across anyone that this game didn't work well with. In a nutshell, it's a trivia game where anyone (even those who aren't good at trivia) can play and have a good time and have a good chance of winning.

The game comes packed with lots of question cards (all of which have numeric-value answers) which virtually no one (in our game-groups anyway) ever knows the answers to. (There's even an expansion that comes with more cards if you ever run out). The questions always have interesting answers and provides a fair bit of educational value to the game. The rest of the game components such as the timer, gameboard, and erasable pens are good-quality as well.

Highly recommended - great for groups of 6 or more players!

Customer Review: Great for parties, but game has one huge problem
Summary: 4 Stars

I have the edition in which payout tables are 2-1 to 5-1, and after a few rounds the chip totals can get ridiculously high. There are no betting limits, so after 3-4 rounds you'll need to get your calculator out and start issueing IOU cards as the chips will run out. The creators say that hundred of people sample the game before it is issued, and its puzzling why this problem didn't come up again and again, as we ran out of chips practically every game we played. It's not that we are so brilliant as players, but with the odds on the board it pays to be aggressive, and if you hit 3 straight 4-1 answers you turn 2 chips into 128 chips after just 3 rounds.

To improve the game they should put limits on bet sizes until the final round, so more time is spent answering questions rather than chip counting and distribution.

Customer Review: I was suprised to find that i love this game
Summary: 5 Stars

i am usually into games like taboo, apples to apples & games like that & never have been into trivia games. Honestly i am not the brightest of people & dont like to look stupid with trivia games lol so when my brother made me play this i was not happy. After the 3rd question i was in love~!! all answers are number answers so everyone has a chance to be right & even then it isnt about having the right answer its about betting on the right answer. Everyone lays there answers out & then the betting begins you place chips (just like a roulette kinda thing) on the answer or answers you think are right & you are only able to bet on up to 2 answers & then whoever bet on the correct answer gets paid out in chips based on how much you bet. & those who have bets on losing answers lose all the chips they bet on that space.

Customer Review: Super fun trivia!
Summary: 4 Stars

I'll start with a blatant, what a great game! Wits & Wagers takes the trivia game and gets rid of everything I hate about trivia. With the ability to bet on everyone's answer you you are at a lot less of a disadvantage to those who may know more than you and with all the answers being numerical it also equalizes the guessing ranges. The questions are all pretty equal in difficulty, I'd say average to quite hard in most cases. There aren't too many that we've run across that were easy. The game plays really great with a full 7 and I'd say 4 is what you really need to have the most fun out of it. The game contents are top notch, the cards are solid and the betting mat adds a lot to the experience and fun of the game! I think this is definitely worth picking up for holiday parties and family gatherings!
