Toys and Games Reviews of Qwirkle Board GameCustomer Review: A 'Must-Have' Family Game Summary: 5 Stars
My family and I often meet at family gatherings and play games. While we tend to try lots of new games, only a few of them have earned a place on our 'permanent game shelf'. Qwirkle quickly became one of our favorite games because it is easy to learn, easy to play....yet challenging because every game is different. My husband and I purchased multiple copies of this game to be given to several family units at our upcoming family reunion. I'm sure we will have a fun and boisterous "Qwirkle Tournament" involving all ages (4-99)!!! Even our youngest grandchildren (ages 4-9) quickly mastered basic moves and picked up 'higher strategy' thinking.....it's hard to find a game that is easy enough for the youngsters, yet appeals to adults, too!!
Customer Review: Endless bore! Summary: 1 Stars
Reviewers forget to mention: this game is endless. I bought it for my grandkid, and we played, and played, and played. The fun disappears after an hour or so, then you pray for an earthquake, or something to get you out of the house. Candyland can take awhile, but you can cheat your way to an early conclusion, I don't think there is an easy way out of this game, maybe feign a stroke. Even the kid eventually got bored. This game is educational--it sure taught me a lesson the first (and last) time I played it. Do yourself a favor--create your own, more exciting, game. I recommend "Watch grandpa sleep." or buy a less painful game, like "Dan the Dentist's home root canal kit." You have been warned!
Customer Review: Fun For Four Year Olds to Adult Summary: 5 Stars
I got this after reading the reviews because I thought it would be great to have a game that the kids could play with the adults. This game is just right! One weakness is the fact that the tiles must stand up on the table and then the light does not get to the colors enough for the orange and red to be easily told apart. The solution is to use Scrabble tile holders that slant the tiles back just a bit. My husband, being a woodworker, made us custom tile holders for our game! The game needs tile holders. Otherwise a fun game that can be played with all adults (keeping score) or with children as young as 4 (without keeping score), or with a mixed group of kids and adults. I recommend this game.
Customer Review: Qwite the awsome game. Summary: 5 Stars
A great game--Easy to learn and play, while being fun and challenging for all ages. We have enjoyed playing it with my 5-year old nephew (after which I wanted my own set!), and with our grown-up friends. The sturdy wooden pieces and bright colors are a joy to handle in themselves, and should last for years!
Often we choose word games for ourselves, but this one will be great for our non-native English speaking friends, because you can play without knowing English well.
You could use it for all kinds of educational purposes, too; from the obvious developing matching skills to language education for colors, shapes, and numbers (how many do you see...).
Customer Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
Great game and I only have played it once with my fiancee. I have been looking for a game that would be perfect to play after dinner and have a few cocktails with. This is definitely it. I can't wait to play this with other friends and family, especially with the sack that it comes with which is perfect to carry all of the blocks around with. Don't hesitate to pick this one up. It's very quick to learn, and halfway through the game you start getting the feeling that you really need to start strategically thinking about your next move, and future moves. If I were to compare this to any other game, it would be scrabble, but without words. Pick it up! It's fantastic!
