Toys and Games Reviews of Qwirkle Board GameCustomer Review: Fun Game! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fun family game! Everyone that has tried it seems to like it a lot. It isn't hard to play or hard to learn. The wooden tile pieces feel like they are quality made and they look very pretty all laid out while playing. It is nice to have a bag to pass the tiles around in rather than having to spend a lot of time turning the pieces face down in the bone pile before each game.
My 6 year old is still too young for this, but my 10 year old loves it. My teens also enjoy the game when we all play. There is definitely a bit of luck needed when it comes to drawing the tiles, but it also takes skill and strategy to decide where to place each tile to benefit you the most in the long fun.
I send this game to my inlaws directly from Amazon too. They say they really enjoy playing it with their grandchildren when they visit. They've also played this with a few other people who then wanted to know where they could buy this game themselves. I know I've sent some business your way Amazon, but stumbling upon this game.
Customer Review: Very engaging Summary: 5 Stars
There is a good reason Qwirkle won the MENSA award for board games. It is a simple game to learn--TIC TAC TOE on steroids--but very engaging and somewhat addictive. Children can play it easily, and it would help younger children with shape and colour recogniton and space relations. It is a strategy game that involves a bit of luck and also teamwork when played with four or more players.
Qwirkle requires a fair amount of surface area on a table. You may think of it as a combination of TIC TAC TOE, [wordless] Scrabble and Dominoes in nature. You may also want to make sure you play it in sufficient light, as the red and orange tiles can be difficult to distinguish in poor light. Players who are colour blind may find Qwirkle difficult to play.
The game is simply but well made of painted wooden tiles that should last a lifetime. I highly recommend it as a very enjoyable and challenging game for both young and adult players. It is refreshing to play a game that involves no electronics, timers or dice.
Customer Review: Great Game for all ages, always different always fun! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this game for my kids (ages 13, 10 and 8) for Christmas. We have played it any time we have had company over and the object was to have fun. I will admit we had to read the directions a couple of times to understand clearly what was considered an allowable move and what wasn't, but once we did that it was so much easier to explain to the newbys. We LOVE this game and everyone who has played it...ages 8 up to 80 have said they loved it to.
I might add, it is a very well made game and the plus is that it comes with a sturdy canvas pouch to store all the game pieces in so you can do away with the box, and so easy to transport to friends houses!!!
Tip: Although I am a young 44, my eyes are failing me and so we bring out the little wooden trays from scrabble to hold our individual playing pieces. This allows the pieces to rest at a slant and it is easier to see the difference between an orange square and a red square without having to have the "runway" lights on overhead. LOL:)
Customer Review: A Game for all Ages Summary: 5 Stars
Qwirkle Board Game is a hit for young and old. We have a family vacation home and one of the things we love to do is play games. This game is one of our family favorites. When I say family I am talking about ages 6 to 77, everyone loves this game! Directions say 2 to 4 players but we play with 6 players and it does not effect the game at all. We also play as teams so we have had as many as 10 people playing at one time. As other reviewers have mentioned it is kind of a scrabble type layout but shapes and colors are what you are playing with. The visually pleasing board that is created as you play the game never looses it's appeal. I have introduced this game to several of my friends (ages40-50) and everyone of them has ended up wanting the game for them selves and their families. I have never had a problem with the quality of the game. The tiles are a nice weight, colors bright and centered. The game itself is challenging yet is easily played by young and old. I really think you can not go wrong with this game.
Customer Review: Fabulous Game! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this game for our 5 1/2 year old daughter thinking I would hate the game but the rest of the family would enjoy. Well I was pleasantly surprised -it is my favorite game to play, and not just because I win often. Our daughter enjoys it as well. We let her keep score which is one of the reasons she likes the game. She has beaten the adults before. We plan fairly -we don't need to dumb it down for her, she can hold her own and thinks about which tiles will give her the most points.
The game is easy to learn, fun to play, and addicting. Our only complaint, which has already been mentioned is the red and orange tiles can be hard to tell apart under some lighting. Pink (or white) would have been a better color for either one of them.
If your younger children don't like it at first, play partners with them or wait a few months and try it again. It really does have educational value as well as being a lot of fun.
