Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Shapes - Chunky PuzzleCustomer Review: Melissa & Doug Rock Summary: 5 StarsI love these colorful wooden chunky puzzles. My 18 month old daughter likes to play with the pieces, but she's beginning to figure out the concept of matching the peices with the shapes. Age 2+ is appropriate for these puzzles. I buy Melissa & Doug because they are high quality, and made of wood, like things were when I was a kid. This puzzle will last forever if taken care of. The only con with these puzzles is that, with the sturdiness comes weight, and when toddlers throw the pieces, someone or something might get hurt. Not really a problem if you supervise your toddler. I've been hit a few times by flying peices, so we're learning not to throw in the house :)
Customer Review: Good, but cheaply done Summary: 3 StarsGreat concept, but I was disappointed to find that the shapes are plain wood with colored paper on just the front, rather than painted wood all the way around. One or two mouthings and the paper started wearing off within the first day! I generally really like M&D products, so was sorry this one wasn't more durable. I'll probably only buy these in stores in the future where I can examine the quality more easily before I buy.
Customer Review: Great for Shapes! Summary: 5 StarsI love this puzzle. I love how simple and clear everything is on it. It's great for teaching shapes, colors and words. My son used to love this when he was into the chunky puzzles and for a while I remember he would find shapes around the house (doors and cabinets = rectangles, light fixtures = circles, mirrors = squares, etc) constantly name them. I was amazed that he could really tell the difference between a rectangle and a square (he was about 15-18 mos) and that the heart and star are his favorite shapes. He would even find the smallest things and notice their shapes...like that an eraser and the buds of daisies are round. With this puzzle he also figured otu that you could stack some of the shapes upright as long as they had a flat side. If he couldn't stack them upright he would lie them flat and we would do kaleidoscope-ish designs. This was a fun and very educational puzzle!
Customer Review: fun learning shapes Summary: 4 StarsMy recently turned one year old loves this. Star was one of his 1st words. Santa brought this gift to him. The paper on the tops of these shapes is already starting to peel...apart from that I'm happy with the purchase.
Customer Review: Great Buy Summary: 5 StarsThis puzzle is going to be a great Christmas gift for my 20 month old.
