My sister in law has a gift for choosing unique toys and books for my kids, and this sushi set tops the list. She chose this for my son's second birthday, and he loves it! His three and a half year old brother and seven year old sister have also been playing with it a lot. They spend so much time "making sushi," selling it to each other, and eating it. The accessories like the knife and chopsticks are great, and the velcro for assembling the sushi is a brilliant idea. Most kids love to play with pretend food, but pretend sushi is just so cool. The box the set comes in is great, not only for storage but because it's so cute. Even if you don't care for sushi, you'll love this toy and so will your kids!Customer Review: Sushi -adorable and educational too!

I first bought this toy for my (then 4 year old) daughter, after reading the book "Yoko" by Rosemary Wells. Because sushi is featured prominently in this book, I knew my daughter would be interested. She has since spent many happy hours making her version of sushi(with spicy enchilada sauce.) The set is adorable and sturdy, and the included wooden knife and chopsticks insure that your child will have ample opportunity for fine motor skill enhancement. There is even a dish of soy sauce, velcro-on seaweed, and felt wasabi and ginger. I like this toy so much, that I just bought a second set for my 2 year old niece. A few of the pieces are small, so keep this in mind if you're buying this for a toddler!Customer Review: Great toy!

My 3 year old daughter loves her sushi set. She loves mimicking her daddy eating his sushi. She also is learning new skills with cutting and the chopsticks. She plays with this, her cutting set Melissa & Doug Cutting Food Box and Melissa & Doug Slice and Bake Cookie Set every day in her little kitchen.
The pieces are well made and colorful. The paint is well done and the pieces are solid wood. And the storage "Bento" box is great.

Okay, so it may be unusual for a 3 year old to love sushi so much that he'll gobble down all the sashimi he can grab, but that's not the only reason my little boy loves this set. He enjoys serving 'sushi' to the rest of us on special occasions. This is an excellent way to introduce more exotic items into your child's play food/kitchen collection. The silver paint began to wear off of the knife after just a few days, but otherwise the set has proved to be very durable (we have owned it for 9 months now). Also with the concerns over pthalates in children's toys I love Mellissa & Doug's high quality wooden toys.Customer Review: Miso Cute!

I bought this for my 18 month old son to start trying some pretend play with him (younger than the recommended age, I know). He LOVES the sound the sushi makes when you "chop" it, although he can't really chop it himself. He likes to pull the pieces apart and listen the velcro. He plays with the chopsticks. The only part of the set that we had to take away was the "ginger" - he kept putting it in his mouth and sucking on it, which made it soggy and gross, but I'm sure an older child wouldn't do that.
Very cute, very durable, painted wood sushi set. Great for the sushi lover's child!
