Customer Review: Colorful, beautiful eye-catching, peaceful fun toy for early childhood

Beautiful puzzle for early childhood, up to the third grade. Colorful and eye-pleasing, you really need a set of puzzles like this. Some of the other puzzles by Melissa and Doug that are similar are, Solar System, we have done this puzzle with young children we tutored, and they enjoyed it very much, Bugs and Community Helpers. There are others.
If you would like your child to spend time with puzzles, it is a good mind-engaging, fun toy for young children, think about getting four or five similar puzzles. The same is especially true of the classroom. Puzzles such as this are of value for children because they engage the mind and the eye. Their eye is focused, not on violent cartoons, video games or movies, but on something positive and peaceful.

Customer Review: Fantastic puzzle, but smells awful!

My son just turned 3 and is in love with puzzles. This one is currently his favorite. It's fun to put together but still a little challenging for a kiddo his size. The colors are very vibrant, and there are so many species of fish in the puzzle that we can turn it into a learning and search and find game too once the puzzle is together.
That being said, I have two concerns. First, right out of the box some of the pieces were flaking at the edges. I'm concerned that after putting it together repeatedly that the design will start to peel off entirely. Nearly half the pieces have some sort of peeling going on. Second, it smells AWFUL. We love to get down on the floor and put it together, and there are some serious fumes coming off the pieces. I've left it out to air overnight and the pieces still have a very chemical odor to them. I'm not sure if it's from the glue or the painting process or what, but I'm surprised at the odor.

This toy is not only good fun for my son (4 yrs), but also for me. Even my 2 yr old has started showing an interest in puzzles because of the bright, colourful pieces. It helps me relax and unwind, at the same time be doing a fun activity with my children. The puzzle pieces are thick and durable, but will not withstand being chewed upon - so if you have a dog or a younger child who likes to chew on things, it could be tricky!
It takes about 20 mins for me and my son to solve the puzzle from scratch. It is definitely a challenge for my son to do it by himself - he's not yet managed that. I think upto 6 yr olds can find it challenging - it could keep them occupied for 45 mins or so.
Ideal for ages 3.5+ to about 6 yrs (of course it's always fun for adults, but if you're a puzzle fan you probably want to do something more challenging as an adult).

Our 2 1/2 year old loves doing this puzzle and frequently asks to do it. She can't do it completely on her own yet, but frequently finds matches on her own, and does the rest with little hints and help from us. It's great for learning to match color, pattern and shape, find the corners and edges, and work on fine motor skills of putting the pieces together. The puzzle is durable, thick cardboard, and the colors are bright and distinct. We decided to try this type after reading all the bad reviews about the wooden ones. The only complaint is that to see the whole picture of the puzzle you only have the smallish picture on the side of the box: the picture on the front is zoomed up a bit, so that the edges are not visible. We'll definitely be getting some of the other M&D puzzles of this type.Customer Review: Melissa and Doug does it again

My son has a few of these puzzles and they are just great! The pieces are nice and thick and very durable. This puzzle is really nice- very colorful and the image is beautiful! The puzzle was easy enough for my four year-old son to put together with minimal help. (I'm sure he will be able to do it all by himself in no time.)
The only thing that I would change in this product is that the box does not show the entire image because part of it is covered with text. We like to pick up a puzzle piece and then locate it on the box and weren't able to do that with a few of the side pieces. It's not a big deal, but would have liked to be able to see the entire puzzle on the box.
