Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Triangular Crayons - 24 pack

Customer Review: Almost too pretty to use
Summary: 5 Stars

When these crayons first arrived, I thought to myself they were too pretty to use! It was housed in this pretty case and the crayons look so shiny and smooth and had a very cool triangular shape. We almost left them in there because it was so difficult to open the plastic lid the first time! I could not open the lid and it made my fingers all red from trying to snap it open. My husband eventually got it open for me, but he had some trouble as well. After opening it a few times, it got looser and it was eventually fine. The crayons are very nice and draws very nicely. My boy loves using them. These crayons seems like they're better quality than the regular round-crayola ones. It draws smoother and doesn't leave as much "white" space when you color with these as opposed to the crayola brand. The case it's in is very nice because it's so easy to take them in and out and to see all the colors. I don't like buying crayons in a square box where they are sitting upright because you have to dig your fingers in to pull them out. This case is great and the crayons are great.

Customer Review: Nice quality crayons with a few interesting quirks
Summary: 4 Stars

My 3.5-year-old loves these crayons and the box they come in. They do seem very sturdy compared to typical crayons and they write smoothly. I'm not sure how much the triangle shape really helps with holding the crayons; it seems a bit awkward for my daughter. But it certainly helps them stay put on the table. I think it would be nice if they were a tad longer, just for longevity of use. They are a little shorter than typical crayons. Also, I'm wondering how I'll sharpen them...with a knife, perhaps?

No paper wrapping/label is nice but it's a trade-off, because it does make it difficult to distinguish between a few of the darker colors until you begin coloring with them.

One strange thing...our set didn't come with a black crayon. It came with two very dark green crayons that almost look like black until you color with them. I'm assuming this was just an anomaly of my particular set, but it's sort of a bummer that it's missing.

Customer Review: Yes- Fun, educational, and durable
Summary: 5 Stars

I got these crayons for my 18 month old daughter and just love them. They are so durable, she sits on them and we step on them and they don't break unlike other brand crayons. She broke all of her triangular crayola crayons within days and these ones have not even come close to breaking yet.

They are educational for us because she picks each one up and waits for me to say what color it is. I like that they don't have paper on them, it is easier to teach my daughter colors that way, and I don't have to worry about her eating the paper.

Easy to hold on to because of the shape.

Love the box- Durable, easy to put away- again unlike other brands that come in cardboard.

My only complaint is that there are too many browns! There are 3-4 browns that almost all look the same. It's not that big of a deal because all of the other colors are there too. All in all, I will say I am very impressed.

Customer Review: Why the hype? They're no replacement for Crayola.
Summary: 3 Stars

I got these crayons after reading everyone's gushing reviews about them. Yes, they're triangluar. However, there's like five different shades of brown in there, and only two shades of blue. There's just one true red. We bought these to use in the car--not a good idea. It's hard sometmes to open the lid (it flips up like a steno notebook) and he can't do it on his own. He's 4. When he does manage to open it, the crayons come flying out because they don't sit very deep in the tray. He asks for colors he's used to with Crayola (gold, for one example) and I have to give him yellow or this gross yellow-brown color. I just don't see why people are so crazy about these things. Maybe the jumbo set for toddlers would be better, but it's no substitute for a big, giant box of Crayola.

He's also used them once and the tips are nearly colored off, I don't see any difference in how long they last. They wear the same.

Customer Review: Excellent Quality Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first review after years of purchases via Amazon!

These are a REALLY great quality product - color is vibrant, they don't break (and believe me, my children - 2 years and 4 years - have given it a try), their is no wrapper to be shredded into little bits and cleaned up, and their shape encourages proper grip. After I purchased these a couple of months ago, my husband declared that we weren't going to buy any other type of crayon ever again. They really are great! The case keeps them organized, and is handy to stick into a bag and carry in the car, a restaurant, or church. It stays closed (it can be a little difficult for children to open on their own) during travel and keeps them intact and ready to use. After having a zillion other kinds of crayons, I would highly recommend these!!
