Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Pasture PalsCustomer Review: A Beautiful Toy Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this set for my 5-year-old daughter at FAO Schwartz a few months ago. It is beautifully displayed prominently in her bedroom and she plays with it often. I read another review on this site about the fur falling off, etc. and I would say that perhaps this is not the best toy for a younger child; it is suitable for a young elementary schooler or older (my 7 1/2 year-old loves them, too). One wonderful aspect besides the beauty of the horses and their variety and their included pastoral scenes in their holder is that there is a description of each horse on the back of the holder. Very educational - now my daughters know all the different horses and their "functions"/activities. This is actually one of my daughter's BEST toys.
Customer Review: Not what I was expecting Summary: 2 Stars
I ordered this Melissa & Doug pasture pal set for my daughter for Christmas. She's almost two and loves all things horses. I must admit both her and my son (3) love these horses and it may have in fact been the best gift (in their opinion) of the year.
I , on the other hand, am sorely disappointed. Melissa & Doug are one of my favorite toy makers so i was stunned to see how cheaply made and horrible these horses truly are. They are covered in some strange fuzz that my son now enjoys peeling off of the horses bodies.
I wish they would remake this set in plastic. I would happily purchase and give 5 stars if they were remade.
Customer Review: great for little girls who love horses! Summary: 4 Stars
My 7 year old is crazy about horses, and this product is a great value because you get 12 little horses for the price you might usually pay for 2 or 3 horses. All you moms out there who have literally a hundred little "horseys" laying around the house will appreciate this! My daughter plays with them for hours. The back of the box also identifies each of the 12 horse breeds, and gives a little story about the horse, so the product is somewhat educational. I gave this product a less than perfect score on the measure of "durability" because the horses are small and the legs could break off if stepped on or thrown in the bottom of a toy box.
Customer Review: Toy horses Summary: 5 Stars
This was a Christmas gift for our granddaughter - she is thrilled with her horses and enjoys playing with them. Educationally, their value comes in talking about the breeds represented by these toys, and the care required by real horses. She's only had them a couple weeks, and they are still in good shape - let's see how they are three months from now:-) I would have appreciated knowing the approximate sizes of the horses themselves; the size of the box in which they came was good info, but not enough. I was actually looking for horses that were 3 to 4 times the size of these, but she really likes these. A title for my review???!!!
Customer Review: Boys Love It Too Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this set for my 4 year old nephew because my sister said he was driving my niece crazy by playing with her My Little Pony toys. This looked as close as I could get to "ponies for boys". Once it arrived, my 5 year old son pestered me for his own set -- going so far as to wish upon a star for a set of ponies (he has never expressed the least interest in horses before). All Christmas day, the three of them played with this set, rescuing the ponies with a helicopter, putting them in trailers, making stables out of boxes, etc, etc. It's now two days after Christmas and here I am, ordering a set for him.
