Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Magnetic Wooden AlphabetCustomer Review: Magnetic Letters are Great! Summary: 5 Stars
We put them on our fridge so the children have something to play with while I cook. They are an easy way for children to manipulate letters and learn with more than one sense. They are tactile in that they are cut out and the child can trace the letter with his or her finger and feel the letter. They are easy to play with and fun. We have also taken them on trips with us in the car. I bought an old cookie sheet for each kid and they can use this as magnet holder while they play and manipulate the letters. Enjoy.
Customer Review: Great fun, just don't get them wet Summary: 4 Stars
As other reviewers have noted, these otherwise sturdy wooden magnets don't take well to water. They lasted almost two years for us in good condition until my daughter left them outside overnight and they got wet. Then the paper peeled off and now they are unsightly. I don't understand why the color has to be printed on paper instead of painted directly onto the wood. If they were painted instead of paper, they would last for so much longer.
These are still better than the plastic alternative, however.
Customer Review: Two year old loves it. Summary: 5 Stars
We are having a great time with this toy. My son loves playing with the letters, and can identify all the capital letters and most of the lower case now. He also likes to group them by color, and sing the alphabet song while he does so. We like the size of the letters and the fact that the entire back of the letters are magnets, rather than just a few spots.
PS - apparently in the past, there was concern about the lead content of the paint, but M&D have since addressed it (according to their website).
Customer Review: Lower case "h" malfunction Summary: 4 Stars
My granddaughter loves these letters. Only problem is her name has a lower case "h" in it and the set only came with one and it's defected. It's smaller than the others and the magnet doesn't work. So she can't spell her name on her magnet board. She's 20 months old and can't write her name, though she tries, but she can spell it. But her "h" will not stick. I wonder if this is a problem with all the sets or did I just get Lucky! I'd order another set if I knew I'd get a lower case "h" that works.
Customer Review: Letter Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
Like their Number counterparts, this Alphabet Magnetic Set is a great, inexpensive teaching aid. The letters come in both upper and lower case and in a variety of colors. They are stored in a handsome wooden box which has two compartments to segregate the lower and upper case letters.
I highly recommend this set. You can use them on a fridge, sure, but we like using them on our Melissa and Doug Table Top Easel. Our son really gets a kick out of these letters.
