Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Food GroupsCustomer Review: Cute idea, but not well thought Summary: 3 Stars
We bought these for our 5 year old daughter and 18 month old son for their play kitchen. Since we have an APO address, this is one of the only play food items that would ship here, so we chose it. I was a little aprehensive about the food being of wood. I guess with good reason too. Since they are wood and painted, they chipped and paint was scraped off with in the first few days, even when returning them to the wooden baskets that they came in. My children are relatively good with toys and take good care of their things. I would hate to see what these would look like after a week with rough playing children. Again, they are cute, but not for us.
Customer Review: Great Durable Toys for Tots Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE Melissa and Doug everything! I got this set for my almost 2 year old daughter and she loves it so much!
We store them in her play kitchen. It's colorfully painted and comes in wooden crates for easy storage. I love how this set represents the four food groups and my daughter can identify a lot of the foods already! When ever she wants banana for instance, she brings me the banana and shouts "Nana!!" I find these little guys everywhere in the house. Especially when I'm cooking! She'll be a little cooker soon enough! I'm so happy to have these toys for her wooden collection. By far one of our best purchases for the baby girl!
Customer Review: Fun and educational Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this food groups set for my nephew who just turned 2 years old for Christmas. Although each piece is smaller than life-size, they are the perfect size for toddlers' hands. It also makes playing pretend grocery shopping easier, since all of his toy wagons can easily fit all of them in one haul. The quality is great too; beautifully coloured and sculpted. My nephew loves this set so much that he is convinced that the food is real. Imagine the disappointment on his face when I had to tell him that I couldn't open the wooden milk carton to pour him a glass after he asked me for some!
Customer Review: Great wooden food set Summary: 5 Stars
I got this Melissa and Doug wooden food groups set for my 20 month old. When it got here I was surprised how many foods came with the set, as well as the quality of the product. My daughter just loves them, and plays with them daily. She likes to pretend eat or drink them and goes over the names of the foods. I'm still trying to show her how the foods fit in the different groups. The wooden bins are just as durable as the foods. I would highly recommend this to anyone out there looking for an educational, fun food play set. Melissa and Doug wooden toys are durable, and very cute.
Customer Review: Great idea, horrible construction Summary: 1 Stars
I loved the idea of this product. Very educational (sorting the food into their food groups) and nice looking, realistic, healthy foods. I was very dissapointed however with the quality of the product. The tomato (which is a sphere) got a huge crack in it, and quite a few of the other foods had knicks and cracks. I returned the product and now hesitate buying Melissa and Doug foods. I should say that we do own many Melissa and Doug products already, but this one might have changed our mind about the workmanship of the wood for little children.
