When I ordered this puzzle the product description said "wood" and "hand painted", the customer reviews also raved about these features. When I got the puzzle I was very disappointed to find that the puzzle pieces are MDF board, not wood or even plywood, and the puzzle board was MDF and plywood. Additionally they were not painted at all but had paper stickers that immediately started tearing off.Customer Review: Our 22 month old LOVES these puzzles

Highly recommend these. Our daughter has this one and the zoo/safari animals. The pieces stand up easily which is a huge bonus over regular puzzles. She lines up the animals in a "parade" and then puts them back in their place over and over....
She plays with them so much that the corners are starting to chip. THat's the only negative.

Bought this puzzle with the Safari and the Construction ones as well. This one and the Safari ones are my little one's (17 mons) favorites. We spend 30 mins playing with them. He loves to get them out and put them back in, I ask the names of each animal, and the sound they make. Really fun and educational. Also they are so well done I'm sure they will last a long time.Customer Review: First and Favorite

This was my daughter's first Melissa and Doug chunky puzzle and still one of her favorites. It introduced her to these durable, colorful and easy to manipulate puzzles. She played with it before she was one-year-old and still plays with it as a two-year-old. My (then) 21 month old received this puzzle for Christmas, his very first puzzle. He loves it! The pieces are easy for him to hold, and it is just challenging enough to hold his interest without getting frustrated. He has played with it almost daily and it has held up very well. Very cute puzzle, we highly recommend it!
