My son received this puzzle as a gift when he was around 8 months old. I figured it was too old for him. But i was wrong. He loved this puzzle from the start. the big chunky pieces were easy for him to manipulate. as he grew older, he moved from talking about the farm animals to fitting them into their proper places on the puzzle board. I believe this product helped my son identify farm animals and encouraged us to discuss them and their sounds. Now that he's almost 2, he pulls each animal out of its place, names it and its sound, kisses it then returns it to its proper place...followed by giggles and applause. I love Melissa and Doug products. ...they're educational and VERY DURABLE.Customer Review: My 1-year old daughter loves it!

I bought this puzzle for my daughter when she was 11 mos old. I thought it was too early for her to enjoy it. I also was concerned about the lack of knobs. However, i liked the animal figurines and decided to give it a try. My daughter fell in love with it immediately! It's been over a month and she plays with it constantly with or without our help. She studies them, chews on them, bangs them together, puts them in and out various containers. She still cannot put the shapes into the cutouts, but she is trying.
I have to say, that she is an observer, so this toy suits her perfectly!
And the quality of the toy is excellent!

My daughter has been playing with this toy since 10 months old and now she is 19 months. It remains to be her one of the most favorite toys. Not only it teaches shapes, animals, colors but imagination. Now she loves to go under our kitchen table with this toy and does her own imaginative play with all of the figures while making animal noises. We also take some of the animals in the diaper bag when we go out and she plays with them at a restaurant or in the car. We;ve been using it for 9 months now on a daily basis even when eating sometimes and it is still in a great condition.Customer Review: Beautiful For A Day

I was so excited to get this puzzle for my little ones. Unfortunately, the item description is misleading. The puzzle looks nice (before the kids get to it) and the chunky pieces were a perfect size! However, this puzzle is NOT hand painted. The puzzle pieces are just faced with a sticker, that easily comes off (in pieces!). That is not the quality I was expecting, especially from Melissa and Doug. I've had the puzzle for 2 months now, and 2 or 3 of the pieces have the stickers mostly peeled off.Customer Review: I agree, very disappointed that the product was changed

I will be writing a letter to the company. They should no longer be writing "handcrafted by hand" on their products. It is shameful and misleading. The puzzle pieces are probably machine made and and I don't see any evidence of "hand crafting" anymore. I just opened the package and the paper stickers are tearing off and my kids haven't played with it yet. The puzzle background is also paper and is coming off the plywood. Do not buy this product. It is not made to last 5 min.
