I bought this for my 4 year old for Christmas. There are a handful of things I don't like about it. One, the pieces aren't necessarily shaped like the state. It's hard to explain, but each state is outlined on the board and then the actual piece isn't necessarily that exact shape. It's confusing to my daughter who normally does great with puzzles. Two, when you put a piece in place you hear the name of the state and the capital...which is great. But I was wish it only announced the state if it was the RIGHT piece. YOu can put Kansas in Colorado's spot and it will say "colorado, denver". Three, the pieces are breaking easily and my daughter isn't hard on things. Four, the sound is light sensitive...if every piece isn't in place and you turn the lights off or on, you start hearing all the states/capitals being announced. A bit annoying.
At the very least I would go with a regular puzzle of the United States...skip the sound.

I bought this toy for my grandson who just turned 2,who is already interested in maps and can identify a few states. We have several of the Melissa and Doug toys and puzzles that have the sound feature. This is an excellent toy and I would recommend it, but some of the pieces are very small. My daughter is sure to supervise my grandson when he plays with this toy, so the pieces don't get lost. The only drawback to this toy is that the sound will activate even if the incorrect state is placed on the board in the wrong area. However, as I said we have loved ALL the Melissa and Doug toys we've bought, feel they are a good value, and like that the sound feature a lot. It does make the toy more interaction for youngsters. Yes, I recommend this toy, as long as it is used with supervision for the small pieces as well as heling the child learn where to place the pieces.Customer Review: Okay but could be better

It's a great concept & very good quality but the details could've been done better. The pieces don't link to their respective button on the board, you could put anything over it & it would say the state name & capitol (e.g. If you place the FL piece over TX it say "TX the capitol is Austin") which led my daughter to think the capitol Alabama is Atlanta until she was corrected. And the pieces aren't a very exact cut; some curves of one state are on another neighboring piece or the piece doesn't exactly match the outline the board. Lastly it would be nice if there was something to keep the pieces in place on the board because they tend to slide around which can make it hard to place all the pieces. Overall though it's a great introduction to US geography & a fun puzzle for kids to play with.Customer Review: I wouldn't recommend to a friend

I got this for my son because I thought it would be fun and educational. The problem is that the talking is SO annoying and there is no OFF switch! He gets very annoyed with it because if you even just pass one of the pieces over one of the states on the board the guy starts talking. And he is so stern. The very worst part is if you misplace a piece then store your puzzle out in the open, every time you turn on the light the guy recites which pieces are missing! The first time it did it is scared my son and his friends badly. I had to put a blanket over the puzzle so light could not reach it so the man would be quiet. Overall I would recommend just getting one that does not talk. The ON/OFF feature missing is a huge deal breaker on this one. Wish I could send it back!Customer Review: Do NOT waste your money!!!!

I purchased this puzzle in order to help my daughter learn state placement, as well as the capitals of each state. I thought it would be a fun, interactive way to reinforce what we were working on. Well, the puzzle is simply junk. You pull up a state, it gives you the incorrect capital. For example, it randomly starts spitting out states and capitals when you select Florida, it claims you are placing Austin, Texas onto the board. It is extremely confusing for someone who is just learning where each state is located. If you want your child to think that Louisiana is located near Idaho, this is the puzzle for you. Also, some of the states aren't cut individually which adds to the high level of confusion. Please, do not waste you money on the puzzle like I did.
