Customer Review: Nice set, but fun runs out quickly

We got our 4 year old this last Christmas and it was a great present...while it lasted. I guess I just didn't really put together how many letters would be used for each name but we made about 6 necklaces and then didn't have enough letter beads to make many more. There aren't very many of the others either. I thought they were perfectly sized for good hand/eye coordination and it was a nice activity to help spell out friends/family's names and choose the fun colors to go with but unfortunately it was one of those toys that was really fun for a day or two and then we couldn't use it anymore. I think next time I'll go with a large case of plastic beads for $[...] from a local store to increase the length of time we'll get to use it.
Like the others said, it doesn't come with a cover. I do think it's perfect for the 4-6 age range.

The beads are just the right size for little hands, the box is great for storing the beads and string, and there is friction between the wood beads and the round-shoelace-type string so the beads stay on the string. This is a great toy. The box is less than an inch high so it is friendly to those of us with small homes.
I bought this one for my nephew. When I told my kids, they protested because they mistakenly thought that I had given theirs away.
Only problem: It is slightly tricky to get everything back in the box so that it closes. It is not too bad though.
Overall - I highly recommend this toy. I plan to keep it for my grandkids when my kids are done with it.

On Christmas morning there is always that toy that Mom buys as a afterthought to even out presents between siblings that becomes the most popular toy. This beading set was that toy. I can't believe how much fun my almost three year old daughter had with this toy. She immediately opened it and started putting beads on the string. When her five year old brother and boy cousin saw what she was doing, they joined in too. This toy had been so much fun for her. I was worried that the beads would be too small for her to handle, but she does fine. The whole set was a bit smaller than I expected, but still so much fun. I think for her birthday in a few months, I'll get her another set. Great buy!Customer Review: My daughter said they were fun!

I bought this for my three and a half year old daughter for a trip we were taking. I also had it in mind for my nine year old to use with her spelling. The letter beads are about a half inch square. I would agree with the other reviewers that it would have been convenient if the nice wooden case had a cover. I put everything in a small plastic container, but that loses the sorting advantage of the tray. The strings have plastic around the ends(like a shoelace) to aid in lacing so my three year old didn't have any problem stringing the beads. Don't get confused by the last two photos, as they are a different product (this product has the square letter beads with the laces on the right and left).Customer Review: pretty beads, no lid

This is a very pretty set of beads, especially if your child likes letters and/or you're working on letter recognition or spelling. My 4-year-old daughter and her 7-year-old cousin both enjoyed stringing these beads. Be aware, however, that the pretty box it comes in has no lid. I couldn't think of a use for a box with no lid, so I ended up throwing out the box. If you choose any of the smaller M&D bead sets with the arched top and the larger beads at the top, such as this one--Melissa & Doug Butterfly Wooden Bead Set--those have a plastic lid that slides in the wooden box.
