I have had this puzzle for my children for three years and they have both loved it. The pieces are large, easy to manipulate, and very cute. It is also very durable, as it still looks nearly new. However, I seem to have the version in which all the pieces are PAINTED. There are NO paper stickers on the top on the pieces (though I do have one Melissa and DOug puzzle with stickers on the pieces (the musical instrument sound puzzle)). You might want to call first to see which version you will be getting, because the all-wood puzzles are definately more durable.

I am very happy with all of the Melissa and Doug products that I have purchased. I bought this one for my niece. She is 20 months, but I think she is smart for her age. She really enjoys the puzzle because she is able to put the pieces in their place and has learned the names of all the animals. They are a great first puzzle, and she likes doing it a few times a day. You can't really see in the picture, but the pieces are actually raised, not flat, when they are in place. The same picture of the animal is also underneath, so you can see where they go when the pieces are out.Customer Review: Knock-off , not name brand!

I want to say first that I LOVE Melissa and Doug products. They are very durable and grow with my son developmentally. My problem with this product is that what I received was very clearly NOT a Melissa and Doug puzzle. It very much resembled one until I picked up the puzzle pieces and discovered that they were nothing more than raw wood cut-outs w/ stickers on top! There was not one drop of paint on the pieces! The board was nicely painted and has the Melissa & Doug 'logo' on it like the others that I have, so I am not sure at all what went wrong w/ the pieces.Customer Review: Spectacular Safari Fun

My sister gave this puzzle to my 15 mo. son for Christmas. He immediately took to it & began to play w/ the animals. They are solid wood pieces, very colorful, large & thick enough for his tiny hands. They even stand on their own & can be played w/ as fun little pieces. He also received the farm puzzle & loved that as well. He learned to say
"moo" from me repeatedly showing him the cow and making animal sounds. Great educational toy! Through his throws of excitement they've taken quite a beating & are still in mint condition. Highly recommended!!!

My daughter is 16 months old and she loves this puzzle. The pieces are thick and durable so it can withstand a little chewing on. The colors are bright and easy to tell the different animals apart. The pieces stay in their place pretty well so when my daughter is putting other pieces in they don't slide around. It is also very helpful that the pictures are also underneath each puzzle piece. She will put the puzzle together and then take it apart only to do it all over again. Its a fun, educational, safe, and overall a great puzzle!
