Got this for my little girl at 14 months old. We've owned it for 2+ months now and she still plays with it EVERYDAY! At the beginning, she only takes the pieces out and walks around with them. Now she's taking them out and could recognize which animal goes where and attempts to fit it back into their spots. The edges are very smooth and the pieces are very easy to grab for little hands. Brightly colored is surely a plus ( the picture represented here is pretty accurate in color of item that you will receive).
My little girl like to transport the entire puzzle ( the base and pieces together) from one room to the other...she has no problem in weight, but occasionally a few pieces would fall off in the midst of her transport and she goes oops! and ooh ooh! It's fun watching her :)
The only reason I gave it a 4 star is my little girl likes to chew on everything and it does wear out the picture. But for the price paid and educational value, along with the fact that it grabs her attention everyday, this is a sure winner! I am planning to purchase melissa & doug's chunky large alphabet and number puzzles as well.

Another great Melissa and Doug puzzle for my son! I purchased this puzzle for my son when he was about 2 years, and it was a huge hit.
My son was premature and had some severe speech delays. His occupational therapist and speech therapist BOTH recommended these puzzles. The action of putting the puzzle together is great for the hand/eye coordination and the fat chunky pieces are easy for toddlers to grasp. Also, talking about and saying the names of the everyday items helped improve his vocabulary and speech tremendously!
Melissa and Doug puzzles are made so well. My son played with his puzzles for over 3 years, and we just passed them on to my friend's 2 year old daughter. They still look like new. I owned over 12 of these puzzles and never had an issue with the paint peeling on any of them.

This is the first of the chunky puzzles we bought for my daughter, and it's still her favorite. We have most of the Melissa and Doug chunky puzzles, and this seems to be one of the easiest to work for some reason. My daughter received this around her 1st birthday, and it wasn't long till she could work it alone. Even now at 18 months, she loves to play with it. Some people complained about the quality, and perhaps there are different versions out there, but we have the one shown in the picture and it is definitely painted, NOT a sticker. All the sides and back are also painted (solid colors), which make the animals fun to play with even apart from the puzzle board.Customer Review: A hoax

I really wanted to like this toy! My son seems to like it so far but we've only had it for a few hours and I know it's going to fall apart soon. I'm an architect and can tell you these pieces are not handpainted. They are printed pieces of computer generated images adhered to the softest wood known as MDF. There is nothing hand made about this product- it has been laser cut and printed. I could have made this for two dollars! A beautiful concept but very poor execution-- not handmade at all! Spend your money on the more expensive wooden toys made with safe materials and longer lasting better sanded wood. I'm taking this product back!Customer Review: Great first puzzle

My daughter received this for Christmas just before her 1st birthday. She loved the colors and enjoyed putting the animals on the board (with some help of course). The chunky pieces were very easy for her to grab and hold. She liked to crawl with the pieces and push them on the floor (crawling with them on the tile floor caused some wear on the paint though). She also liked to chew on them (which we tried to discourage), but didn't wear off the paint very much. This puzzle helped her learn/recognize colors and animals. She's now nearly 2 and still likes the puzzle. She also really likes the bug one that is similar to this one.
