Customer Review: Poor quality on the trains

The tracks are fine and work well with the real (but overpriced) Thomas trains. The trains that come with this set are poorly made and do not roll well and cannot go around the curves in the track without the wheels coming out of the tracks. I consider the trains/cars largly useless. Perhaps I should write M/D to see if I simply have a defective set.
The problem is that Melissa/Doug used rivets on the wheels and the rivets are too tight and do not allow the wheels to slip sideways. The real Thomas trains are not riveted and they have a sideways slip of a few millimeters that allow the trains to go around the curves with the wheels staying in the track.
I do not recommend this product.

This is a great product! The biggest selling point for us is that the connectors are actually part of the track and not a glued in piece. Each track piece is one piece. We have a 1 yr old that would take the 3 yr old's other train tracks and somehow get the connecting piece off. Serious choking hazzard!!! Needless to say, those did not last long. We saw Melissa and Doug tracks at an event about trains and were sold. Found them for an excellent price on Amazon. They are made of Oak and will take a beating. Very versatile. The package had many different ways to create different configurations. Our 3 year old loves them and we do not worry near as much about the 1 yr old playing with them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Melissa and Doug products. This train set is wonderful and such an amazing value. I am just sad that our Thomas the Train, diecast cars do NOT fit on the track. This track hooks up to the wooden set that we bought at Ikea. Based on others reviews, I thought that it would work with the Thomas the Train cars. We can still put them on the track, but the body of the cars are too narrow and so it's just not right. I did try one of our son's bigger plastic Thomas' and that fit just fine, but that's not the ones we were collecting :( We have the Learning Curve trains... Hopefully this review will help someone else from buying the track, if they only want it for a Thomas collection!Customer Review: My soon to be three year old girl loves it!!!!

I bought this wooden railway set for my child's third birthday and she loves it. It is a good value and well worth the price. I also bought several trains from the Thomas and Friends collection and they work well with this set. Additionally, the tracks also are compatible with the Thomas and Friends wooden train tracks so I was pleased with this.
My little girl loves the set and has been actively playing with the set since she received it in March 2011. I would recommend this item any day. Good value and great price!!!Melissa and Doug Deluxe Wooden Railway Set

My 26 month old son received this from his Grandparents for Christmas and he was so very excited! After my husband got it all set up the three of us played with it and enjoyed watching our son play with the train, talking about the colors of the trains and making train noises! Our two complaints are that several of the wooden tracks were warped and wouldn't lie flat on the table or fit together and that the tracks fall apart too easily with the slightest amount of pressure or a tiny shift the support gets dislodged and the tracks fall. We are looking at putting in little screws to the supports to help keep it solid. All in all its a great toy and our son is thrilled!
