We purchased this for our 22 month old son for Christmas! I was probably more excited that he was. After reading many of the reviews, I thought for the price this was the best set to go with. After finally getting it put together, I am very pleased. It's just what I would expect from Melissa & Doug, very sturdy and high quality. Now my delemia is figuring out if I want to glue the pieces down or buy suretrack. I'm leaning toward glueing b/c for the cost of the suretrack, I can proably buy a new train set when he's ready to arranging the pieces on his own. My father-in-law built him a table and screwed the board down.. I think we're going to glue the set to another board that we can set on top of the table and take on and off so he can use the table for other activities. This is definitely a great value and will be hours of fun for my son!Customer Review: Best Wooden Train Ever!

This is a fabulous train set, suitable for children as young as my grandson, who is not quite two years old. It has a wonderful variety of tracks and cars, as well as lovely trees, street signs and other accessories. It is very, very durable, yet is simple to put together, especially the cars, which simply click together via magnets. Personally, I think it's one of the best toys I've seen for interactive play! You can make a simple circle line or an elaborate railway system, or you can just play with the engines and cars, alone. Such versatility and allowance for imagiative play is refreshing. The wood is smooth (so no splinters) and the colors are very nice. I highly recommend this set, which is moderately priced, for anyone who wants to have years of fun with his/her child(ren).Customer Review: Great Toy for my 2 year old Boy

We bought this for our two year old for Christmas and it's great. I shopped around a lot for train sets before I decided on this one. I have no regrets. As many people have said one of the great things is the fact that it doesn't come with all the "junk" the kids don't care about. You get a few trees and people but mostly just track. The set up was easy and the four patterns that were included were also nice. You DEFINITELY need to get two packages of sure track. I bought some based on other users reviews and was SO glad I did. I'm not sure it would stand up long to a 2 year old with out. Don't waste your money on a Thomas brand train set. Get this one for a fraction of the money and the thomas trains will fit. My 2 year old, 5 year old and I love it!Customer Review: Lots of track; not a lot of filler.

I'd have to say one of the best truths is that it really does come with practically 135 pieces of useful track and not a lot of filler such as trees and signs. I was also given a cheaper brand of track from a hand-me-down and it doesn't even compare. We bought this train set for our 3 year old's b.day and it was (and continues to be) a hit. I'm not sure who has more fun me (mommy) or my son. I'm quite sure that my 3 yr old and his little brother will be having fun with this for years to come. Highly recommend! I would also like to say, to those of you who are on the fence about whether to buy the more popular name brand tracks, save your money; use the savings to buy the name brand train that will be compatible with your M&Doug set.Customer Review: Great Train Set!!!

I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday. It is so neat. His exact words when he first saw it were, "yeah, trains, where's Thomas." Luckily, I had purchased a few of the Thomas and Friends trains ahead of time. This set is completely compatible with Thomas engines and the Thomas track that comes with Thomas destinations. This set comes with instructions for different layouts. Of course, I set up the most extensive layout that would fit on the train table. I ended up downsizing, and taking away the bridge and other track that were elevated. A two year old does not need such an extensive layout, but he will like all the pieces when he gets older. I highly recommend this toy. Finally a fun toy that doesn't require batteries!
