Customer Review: A Wonderful Complete Train Set at a Bargain Price

I can't say enough great things about this train set. It is well made and has enough pieces to make a very interesting layout. There are tons of things to do, the set includes a train shed, a round house, two different types of cranes, two different kinds of bridges, enough risers to elevate half the layout, a truck and trailer and two full trains.
I drilled my tracks and attached the whole set up to a board I covered with indoor/outdoor carpeting. I also glued down the risers and elevated tracks so they would not move around. The whole set up is amazingly durable and my young son regularly climbs into the set while he plays.
I shopped around for quite a while before deciding on the Melissa and Doug set but was finally convinced that it was the best value train set on the market. I eagerly recommend this set to parents looking to balance cost against play value. Your kids will love it and so will your pocketbook.

My almost three year old daughter got this today for Christmas. She loves it. She spent hours playing with this and she has no idea it's not the Brio set, the brand affiliated with Thomas the Tank Engine. Take a look at the price of their similar train sets.The crticism of this set is that if you have an elaborate track set up and start moving the trains around roughly the track moves alot and falls apart. Yes and no. First they all do that. Second, my daughter tore up the setup I spent an hour copying from the picture. She could care less. If you have an older kid who does want to run the trains over the entire track, anywhere the track is elevated just glue the track to the wood blocks provide to stabilize elevate track pieces. All I know is that my daughter was smiling and giggling for a long time today and I didn't have to spend hundreds to make that happen. I purchased this train set for my grandson's 3 year old birthday. We had a hard time putting this together only because he was so anxious to play with the 'choo choo train set'. This is the only toy that he will literally spend hours in his room playing with. It is a great set with the roundhouse, bridges, and loading boom all included. We checked on ebay and other sites for Brio but were just too expensive. My daughter has purchased other Melissa & Doug toys and has always been pleased with her purchases form them. I would definitely recommend that you purchase the track clips when you purchase the train set. You need them to hold the raised track areas together. We were all getting frustrated otherwise with it coming apart. The track that is flat on the floor is fine without the clips - which is what we did until the track clips arrived. One happy little boy who can't wait to play with this trains everyday.Customer Review: What a great set!!

I HIGHLY recommend this set.. It is fun for the ENTIRE family, and the value cannot be beat!! The best part though is that the pretend play lasts for hours! We set it up (with much fun for mom and dad) and the kids (girl, 3 1/2 and son 22mths) play choo-choo's.. We uploaded a pic on Amazon check it out. They love going through the city and over the suspension bridge, through the woods.. We also have the extra trains Melissa and Doug offers Melissa & Doug Wooden Train Cars Set.. I would recommend the extra trains but the ones that come with the deluxe set is more then enough.. This set is the best value out there and believe me I have looked around.. It is worth every penny and the quality is what you can expect with the Melissa and Doug products. Buy with confidence and watch your child's mind flourish!! Enjoy!!Customer Review: A great set

We bought this for my 3-year old son, he and my 5-year old daughter love playing with it. With the advice of someone else who posted a review on Amazon, we went ahead and screwed all the pieces into a board so that it is permanently set up - I didn't really want 130 pieces of train all over my house! For us that option works great, granted, you loose the fun of rearranging the tracks that way, but because the set is so big, the track setup is enough as is. Having it mounted allows us to just slide it under his bed at the end of the night, so easy!
We are very impressed with the quality of the wood, it was packaged very well, nothing was broken or missing, all the wood is very sturdy. One note, the current price is much higher than when we bought it - in September it was about $55, now it is listed for almost $90, so keep an eye out and buy it at a good time!
