Customer Review: Good concept; POOR DESIGN- CHILD HURT

My husband and I assembled this toy according to the directions for our 3 year old boy for Christmas 2010. It was a present from "santa" and as such, was one of the first toys he played with on Christmas morning. Within 5 min. of playing with it he started screaming. The product has a bar in the back of the garbage truck, and also has a wooden toy "garbage" part that goes into the back of the truck. The "garbage" was in the back of the truck and my son put his hand in to get it out. Instead of going under the bar (which is where 95% of the room is), he instead for some reason went over the bar which is about 1/2 inch space and got 2 fingers struck. We could not pull them safely out. He was in a great deal of pain. His mother (me) held him and tried to keep him calm and get him to not move his hand. His father had to go find a screwdriver that fit and start disassembling the back of the truck. Once we got the top of the truck off he could pull his hand out.
This incident shook us up quite a bit and I can honestly say it took a while for Christmas to get back on track. My son is okay- but his fingers are clearly bruised and the knuckles are swollen. We are too fearful to have him play with this again. Perhaps older children would not be able to get their fingers stuck but I would still not recommend any parent buying this toy.
