Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Folding Princess CastleCustomer Review: A little girl's dream castle Summary: 5 Stars
This castle was THE magical moment on Christmas morning! We bought it for our granddaughter who is almost 3-yrs-old and the look on her face when she saw it was priceless! The castle is made of wood and is very sturdy. The working drawbridge, multiple rooms, balcony hide-aways and walkways provide endless settings for every possible fairytale. The pretty pink and floral painted details are lovely. It really is an excellent value. We see our little Princess playing with this for years to come! One note: We read all the reviews and took the advice of others which we'll pass along here - we bought Playmobile castle playsets to go with this Melissa & Doug castle and we're very glad we did. The size of the people and accessories are perfect to play with in this castle. We gave our granddaughter the basic people and furniture to use and put the dozens of tiny clothing and other accessories away for when she's a bit older since they are easily lost and could pose a choking hazard for smaller babies.
Customer Review: Best castle and best value Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter has one of those big doll houses but she kept using our son's Imaginext Medieval Castle instead. So we looked into a girls version. We looked at some of the plastic ones but they seemed a little small and sort of cheap but some of their prices were over $80! Crazy talk. Then I saw this Melissa & Doug castle. I am familiar with their wooden toys and have always been impressed with the craftsmanship and durability. And the price was under $50! So we asked Santa to get one for our daughter and happily, it arrived on Christmas morning! This is so much better than we could've imagined! It is so much fun and has the neatest features such as the sliding jail cell door and the pulley operated drawbridge. It opens up to be quite large and has rooms and towers to keep the kid busy for hours. This is a true hit. If you are thinking of getting one, just do it. You will not regret your decision. My friend is all ready counting the days for when we hand it down to her daughter!
Customer Review: We love this castle! Summary: 5 Stars
This castle is beautiful and well built! We bought this at Christmas for our 3-year-old daughter. She turned three on Christmas, and loved this castle! It is really pretty. The rooms are not that large, but furniture does fit in them. Mostly she sits in front of it and uses the space in front of the castle as well. We bought this in December and she has been using misc. furniture from other sets. I just bought the furniture that is made for this castle, (it's March) and I love that too! She was very excited to get it. The furniture is just as pretty as the castle. She really loved it. I didn't buy the characters because other reviews said the quality is not as good as the castle. She uses all kinds of little people and princess toys in the castle. Overall, I would highly recommend this item. I think it is better than any of the plastic ones we looked at, and she didn't seem all that interested in doll houses at this point.
Customer Review: Home fit for princesses Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter, only 2 loves this toy that she uses to play with her princesses from Schleich and Disneyland (of an equivalent scale). Her longest periods of quiet play usually involve this castle and placing the princesses in and around it; there are lots of nooks and crannies for her to put them in. We have Schliech and Papo knights and horses as well, and she marches them around the castle. It's great for scenario-play. She also loves pink, so the color is perfect for us. I love that it folds open for play and closed for the night when we put it away, containing all her lovelies. Every child who comes for a play date immediately gravitates to it, boys and girls alike. The only problem is that while closed, she often tries to sit inside of it, forgetting to open it. If you have a child who is still at the climbing inside of things stage, wait on this until they're a bit older.
Customer Review: Beautiful, Sturdy, TONS of fun! Summary: 5 Stars
We have had this castle for two weeks now, and it has been played with every single day! My 2 and 4 year olds absolutely love it. So do I, as I have joined in! It is beautiful, sturdy, and lots of fun. I took the advice of previous reviewers and added the playmobil figures - what a great idea! We haven't bought any furniture for it yet, but my kids don't seem to care at all. I am considering the melissa and doug furniture or possibly some playmobil sets to add on to the castle at some point. We originally had this castle on a table, but it now rests on the carpeted floor so the kids have more access to all the little rooms. It slides beautifully on the carpet (a berber) without any damage to itself or the carpeting. This castle is one of the best purchases I have made for my kids. We will gets tons of use out of it for years to come I am sure!
