Customer Review: Lots of fun for my four year old, but minor flaws

My four year old loves drawing and coloring. I bought this stamp set for her on a whim and she loves it, as I expected. She likes to stamp and then she colors the images with coloring pencils. This kit is not perfect though. It has only two colors of stamp ink, but she doesn't mind that at all.
First, the kit has no cover. Melissa and Doug used to include plastic covers with their wooden sets and they stopped. I really don't like this change. It affects all sorts of toys, not just this one, but without covers, we deal with more lost pieces.
Second, the stampers themselves are nice and solid but the pictures on the stampers are stickers and those stickers are starting to come off after only two weeks. The stampers are still usable but I am disappointed in the durability.
This is a 3.5 star item. The price is good. But I have a feeling that there are better quality stamp sets out there.

I bought this stamp set and an extra stamp pad for my 3 yr old grandaughter. She loves it! For me, the great thing about this craft is, it is not messy like finger or tempra paints. The ink is washable. Some supervision is a good idea. For instance, I provided a folded wet cloth and instructed her to wipe the ink off each stamp before using a new color. That way, the inks all stay pure and don't get muddy. Then I drew a little background, i.e. hills, a pond, a fence. Then she made her own picture putting a house and trees on the hill, bird and clouds in the sky, frog in the pond, horse in the pasture, etc. She is also learning to color in the lines. I wish the colored pencils were little softer so they would color darker, but overall, this is a great activity for 3 and up.Customer Review: Perfect in Every Way!

This stamp set is the toy in CONSTANT use by my two daughters, ages 2 and 4. Each stamp is either an animal, plant, sun, barn or something like that, so the stamps can be combined to make little stories. The girls like to stamp and then color each one on their paper. The set comes with two pads, one red, one blue. That's plenty it seems. They have used the pads over and over and both are still perfectly wet. The stamps are high quality rubber mounted on wood, so they are very durable and make a nice clear impression. They are easy for little ones to hold, and yet older children love them too because they allow for lots of imaginative play.
I highly recommend this item, as well as most of the other Melissa and Doug toys.

I purchased this for my granddaughter who is four and a half years old. She absolutely loves it. It comes with all the stamps to create a farm scene or horse corral or a day in the park. The stamps are sharp and crisp and easy to color in. I did purchase additional color pencils from a local art supply store as the ones supplied were not soft enough for coloring by a small hand. The ink is washable but will not come off clothing as easily and may take several washings to come out. She also likes when I hand draw roads and mountains and she just stamps in the rest.It comes with a wood storage box and everything fits in neatly including the additional pencils I purchased. This is a great product and she plays with it for hours.Customer Review: Great product!

We got the stamp set for my daughter for Christmas and she really enjoys it. Lots of different stamp options, and they are all related, so you can create scenes that make sense. House, farm, little animals. The stamp set comes with 2 color stamp pads - red & blue, so it's nice to have those 2 options. And the colored pencils are a nice touch for filling in any "empty" parts once the stamp is stamped on the paper. The stamps are sturdy, and they fit easily when you put them back in the box. No wrestling or squeezing them back in. The only drawback is that you have to lay it flat to prevent the items from falling out. A cover would have been great. But overall I recommend this product! -J.Meyer
