I love most of Melissa and Doug's toys but I thought this was to much of the same thing. All the tricks were pretty much the same idea. And every trick was made from wood which makes this durable but not very fun. I remember the magic set my brother had as a kid. It had the glass with the liquid and the quarter trick with the box. Just other things that were quick, fun and easy. I gave this to my niece who is 6 years old. Her eyes lit up when she saw this but when it was opened and played with, I could tell she was not finding these tricks that fun or easy.Customer Review: Great for the budding magician

We purchased this magic kit for my daughter who had just turned 8 at the time. While some of the tricks are beyond her abilities, she quickly mastered a few of them right away and loved showing off! The tricks are high quality...painted wood and real cloth. For the money, I consider it a worthwhile purchase of a quality toy that will fit the 'magic' needs of my three kids over the next 10 years. It is not something they will play with every day but certainly, when the mood strikes, it is a toy they can go to again and again that isn't going to fall apart.Customer Review: Perfect "Starter" Magic Set

My son is six, and I searched pretty hard to find a set that I thought was of the appropriate age level for him, I picked out three and he chose this one from the three. He is very happy with it, and it gets a lot of use.
It was easy to teach him the tricks and he can perform all of them with out getting frustrated, a huge plus; and there are plenty of tricks in the box.
It is very sturdy and well made, as I have found of all Melissa& Doug products. We like it so much, we have bought the set for birthday gifts for his friends.

My daughter is crazy about magic tricks. This is good as it's a fun way to advance fine motor skills. We've bought some single tricks and one other magic kit. They're ok. We like Melissa & Doug the best. It's mostly wood which is terrific. Nice and durable and easy enough to manipulate that they can do tricks very quickly. The instruction kit explains how to do the tricks in order from easiest to hardest so that they can get going quickly and be encouraged to hang in there and master the harder tricks. I admit the adults have found it fun too.Customer Review: Excellent Toy!

This magic set is well-made and lots of fun! My 7 year-old daughter received one from "Santa" and hasn't stopped showing her tricks to EVERYONE! Some of them are really cool and a few are a little hoakie....but hey, this is a set for kids after all, not professionals. It is made out of wood and very high quality. I gave it 4 stars for "educational" b/c children have to learn the tricks, which will really make them think about spatial relationships once they understand how the "magic" is done. I would definitely recommend this product.
