We got this for our 2 yr old but her 4 yr old sister enjoys it also. We have several other food type toys with plastic food but none of them are as well liked or stimulates so much interactive play. The other plastic toys are handed to you if you ask but with this set, the kids insist on telling you what they are going to give you and enjoy separating each piece for service. Also can use to attach pieces that don't belong to get the kids to work on sorting and motor skills. I thought the velcro might wear out too quickly but it is still going strong after 6 months of heavy play. Also nice that the food items are really health choices, no meat or cookies. Very simple and well made and surprisingly loved!Customer Review: Once again..Melissa and Doug have done it

this is a wonderful sturdy product. I will say I have ONE concern which if you have only older kids it's not a big deal. The one issue is that some of the items like the cucumber and carrot have the rounded ends. This is PERFECTLY shaped for a throat. My little one has put these in her mouth and while I am always watching her sometimes when she is playing with my 6 yr old (who the toy was bought for) and ya just never know! I am so scared she is going to get this in her throat.
Again, this is a wonderful toy but maybe they could have made it so that it looked lik it was already cut into.
Melissa and Doug is a wonderful company who makes durable and sturdy toys that are built to last.

This goes perfectly in the play kitchen. The kids love it, especially the four year old. He wants to be a chef just like in Ratatouille.
Beautifully painted and durable, I expect these will still be in great shape when they are a having kids of their own. That in of itself is a treasure with so many other cheap plastic toys that fall apart within days on the market.
The opportunities for imaginative play, food names, math skills (counting, early division), color recognition etc. are endless. My personal favorite is cooking in the kitchen with mommy. I prepare food and they "help".

My babies (twins 2 year old girls) love love love this toy and could sit for an hour (and have!) cutting these well-made adorable vegetables and fruits and breads. They are held together by velcro and you cut through them with the two knives, on the two cutting boards (a bonus that we got two of each, so two kids can play at one time). The babies are starting to learn how to put a few of the veggies back together again so I don't have to do it every time, and that is a great learning experience. I have already purchased 2 more of these for gifts. They put a smile on my face, so colorful and such a cool idea, I like to keep them out because they are almost like a work of art! A fantastic toy...Customer Review: 5 stars!!! A Christmas HIT!!! Both 2 yr. & 9 yr. old daughter LOVE it!

We purchased the kidcraft kitchen, and several Melissa and Doug cutting foods sets for Christmas for our girls, ages 2 1/2 and 9 1/2. They BOTH love cutting these foods, they are held together with velcro. The cutting foods toys are very educational! They can cut food, and add it to bowls and pots for "cooking recipes", and then putting them back together like a puzzle. Everything is excellent quality, solid wood, wonderful imaginative play! We now own the melissa & Doug Make& serve apple pie set, bake and decorate cupcake set, sandwich making set, cutting foods set, cutting fruits and veggies set, pizza party set....and look forward to adding MORE and MORE sets to our play kitchen collection!
