Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug Children of the World Floor 48-Piece Floor PuzzleCustomer Review: My kids love it! Summary: 5 Stars
What a neat puzzle! My children (ages 2 and 4) have really been getting into puzzles the past few months, and this one is a fantastic addition to their collection. I love that it's round, and poses a little extra challenge for them. I also love that it teaches diversity, and that we can talk about different countries and how people dress differently and may participate in different activities in other countries.
The pieces are a perfect size for little fingers. After three times with help, my 4-year old can now put the puzzle together by himself, which makes him very proud! It's also held up well to repeated use. Another neat thing about the puzzle is that each "character" piece has a little corner with the outfit of the person next to them, so if you're working on Denmark, you can see you'll need Germany next, etc.
Overall, highly recommended for all puzzle lovers!
Customer Review: Great puzzle for preschooler Summary: 5 Stars
My 3-year-old and I really like working on this puzzle together. (She can't do it alone. I expect a 4-year-old could. The recommended 6-9 age seems too old.) I think the size of a floor puzzle gives her more of a sense of accomplishment than a standard sized puzzle.
The pieces link nicely so that you get a bit of the next person as you go around the circle. (The last piece of the American boy links into the Chinese girl so you know which character to look for next.)
The pictures of kids from other countries gives a segue to the concept of people from other parts of the world. And they list the country names, so you don't have to feel like an idiot. ;)
Melissa & Doug never let me down. This is another good, quality toy.
Customer Review: Very Winning Puzzle Summary: 5 Stars
All Melissa & Doug puzzles are wonderful and fun for children (and adults) to do, but this puzzle is extra special. For starters it is a giant circle-shape. Also, the theme of Children Around the World is very appealing, especially to my 6 1/2 yr old grandson who has been learning about this topic in school. After we have finished the puzzle each time, we talk about the "kids from other countries" and we pick our favorite ones. Each time we have done the puzzle we have discussed the children and to me this is an extra fun thing. Even my 4 yr old grandson likes it, but his interest in discussing the children depicted is more limited. This puzzle is a must for puzzle-doing families!
Customer Review: Fun and Cute Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this puzzle for my girls when they were 3 and 4. Pretty easy for the 4 year old, but she loved helping her little sister with it, who picked it up pretty easily as well. I love that they do it together. It's very colorful, and they liked to pick their "favorite" attire. It was fun to choose one of the countries represented and learn something about it when they were done. Big pieces are sturdy. Good choice! We also have bought the Melissa and Doug Underwater 48 pc. floor puzzle and Safari 100 pc. floor puzzle.
Customer Review: Fun colorful, teaching tool, will last a long time Summary: 5 Stars
My 3yr old daughter loves this puzzle so much. Its a great way for us to spend time together, and talk about other countries. Its a bit hard for her to do it all by herself, but once you get the first 20% started she can finish it (the trick was to tell her to pay attention to the shoes) Since having this puzzle, my daughter pays attention to the names of countries when she hears them on the radio ("Daddy, she said China, like our puzzle"), and she knows several of the flags of other countries.
