Toys and Games Reviews of Melissa & Doug 60-Piece Standard Unit Blocks

Customer Review: Expensive but not much fun
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this because of the good reviews. However, this is one of the few purchases that my experience is way different than the review.

1. For $45, my 3 year old played with it for 15 minutes then moved on to old toys. The blocks in the heavy huge and to me very unnecessary wooden box is just too few and too boring. There is not much you can create with the few pieces of blocks.
2. Way over priced. $45 for 15 minutes of fun? I love most baby toys. This is the one I really have no interest at first (second and third) glance.
3. A small incidence - One block my son knocked down fell on my toe. I was in severe pain for 10 seconds. Imagine it fell on your baby's toe/finger.

If you don't care paying $45 and you buy 10 sets of these, I can imagine this is totally fun. You can build a few projects with the piece. But definitely one box gives you not much to excite about.

BTW, I have to complement the quality of the wood. Very smooth, sturdy and beautiful

Customer Review: Mom of twins
Summary: 5 Stars

I was happy with this product over all. The design on it and none of the blocks were rough or had any edges that felt like it might come apart and leave slivers in the skin. That was my main concern besides my boys throwing them at each other. I have twins that are two years of age and they love these blocks. I felt the price was decent for the quality and quantity plus i couldnt find anything like this in stores, I had been searching for anything they could build with that wasnt small enough to put in there mouths and the huge lego sets come with like 6 large pieces and to buy two of them would be pricey and the pieces wouldnt be enough to satisfy my two boys cause they would fight over them. So over all i personally love this item and it comes in handy for me cause there is enough for the two of my boys to play with together and it helps them learn to balance and stack pieces as they grow cause this kind of toy can stick with them over the years unlike many others.

Customer Review: The best toy I ever bought
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great set of standard unit/kindergarten blocks. They are a bargin at $50 for 60 blocks. I bought these for my oldest boy when he was 3. He is now 6. The blocks still look new. The best part about these blocks is they can be played with any other toy. When he was three they made houses and tunnels to go with Thomas the train. At four they made up the landscape for countless power ranger battles. At five they were the background for star wars. At six they are used for pokemon action figures. My youngest boy, now three, loves them as well. He uses them to run his toy cars and make castles.

We purchased a set for my brother-in-law when his boys where two and three. They are now five and six. They've thrown out just about every toy they had bought when the kids were small, but they still have the blocks. A great toy. Well made. The only toy we have that the kids never seem to outgrow.

Customer Review: My Kids Are Still Playing With These!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's amazing that it is so hard to find quality wooden blocks anywhere. but these are them. We bought two sets many years ago for my boys and now they are 6 and almost 9 and still play with them. Of course now they are often used as "gerbil houses" but you will still often find big mansions or tracks running through the house. They really do grow with the kids and their imaginations.

I like owning two sets because it gives you a nice amount to play with although one set would be fine for one child. The only thing is that my kids are rough with things sometimes, boys and all, and the wedge shaped pieces have chipped off on the corner but I think that considering everthing these blocks go through, a couple of chips due to "user error" is nothing. They are amazingly sturdy.

Oh and if these can be sent free shipping, do it! Because they are heavy!

Customer Review: great toy
Summary: 4 Stars

We got this toy for my daughter around the tiime she turned 2. About a year later, she still regularly plays with the blocks. And that is saying a lot, since she has a LOT of toys, and loses interest in most of them pretty quickly. Some issues with the wooden box: it's hard for her to get them to fit inside nicely, but looks nice and neat when done correctly. Also, she likes to sit in it. I don't think they put any glue on the joints, and it's fallen apart a couple of times. (We HAVE put on glue.) One or two of the blocks have chipped a bit, but still in great condition. This set does not come with nearly enough pieces, so ordering two may not be a bad idea.

I recently figured out something to do with the box when it falls apart: we use the bottom piece as a ceiling and build a second story on top of it. That makes for even more fun.
