Toys and Games Reviews of Tumblin' MonkeysCustomer Review: Everyone loves it! Summary: 5 Stars
I had a marble game much like this one that I used with children in my speech-therapy program, and they all got so excited when I pulled it out. This is even more fun! It is a great teaching tool for taking turns, numbers, colors, logic, planning, and even physics and statistics (just how likely is this stick to make monkeys fall?) I love that you can take it apart each time without stressing the plastic, unlike my marble game, which makes storage much easier (and the mokeys don't fall on the table and roll onto the floor like the marbles did!) And the sticks can also be used as the classic "pick-up sticks" game.
My 2 year old and 5 year old both beg to play this game, and pay rapt attention while we are playing. The only drawback is the sticks easily bend, so we have to constantly remind them to be gentle, but I really don't know how you could design it differently. Definitely would buy again and again!
Customer Review: Playing w/2 Year Old Summary: 5 Stars
I was trying to choose between Ker Plunk, Honey Bee Tree, and Tumblin' Monkeys. I had Ker Plunk when I was 10yo and remembered the marbles wouldn't be appropriate for a toddler. Also, the reviews mention that it is made inexpensively compared to the original one. I decided on the monkeys b/c they have curly tails which cause them to keep getting caught on subsequent sticks as they fall. So, play lasts longer. The honey bees just fall right through and the game end very quickly.
I got this for Christmas for my 2yo son and he doens't understand the concept of the one w/the least monkeys wins. Instead we play to see who gets the most monkeys. He also like to throw the die, in the top of the tree, w/the monkeys and he screams from excitement if he gets it on his turn. At the end of the game we count monkeys.
Customer Review: Win-win Summary: 5 Stars
This toy is a winner. It is easily set up (though not particularly sturdy for younger children) and easily understood. The very best thing about the toy is that it is win-win. The object of the game is to end up with fewer monkeys. However, kids are so delighted with getting the monkeys, the "loser's" feelings are buffered by acquisition of the wonderful monkeys. I just "lost" two-out-of-three games to my five and a half year old granddaughter, who is beginning to develop an understanding of strategy. "What if you did this, what if you did that" and a thought process. It's wonderful to see the expansion of new ideas and the beginning of deductive reasoning illustrated so simply in this game. We celebrated a growth spurt together!
Customer Review: fun, fun ,fun Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for two different 3 year old children for Christmas. They both LOVE it. Despite the age recommendation being 5 and up, both kids are able to comprehend the game and help with the set up. The monkeys are really cute and the game is really intoxicating in the fact that others that have been in the room while we have played all end up getting into playing. The one thing I wish were different would be that the tree trunk stayed together when packing it back in the box to store. It would be less work for us to have to assemble it each time we play and it is too precise for our three year old to put it together on his own. Despite that, it is a fun game and worth the money!
Customer Review: A big hit for all ages! Summary: 5 Stars
Got this game a few years back, loved it at the time, & forgot about it. At the end of the school year this year, all 3 of my kids had Game Day where everyone brought in a game to play at school. All 3 took this game (luckily they weren't all the same day!). It was a BIG hit in all 3 classes: Kindergarten, 1st grade, & 3rd grade! It was such a hit that I tried to buy it for a couple upcoming bday parties, but I couldn't find it at Wal-mart or Target, so I mail ordered several from Amazon. It's a perfect gift to tuck away for any age or gender! (I must admit, even I think it's fun to try to figure out strategies to keep those monkeys from tumblin'!)
