Toys and Games Reviews of OthelloCustomer Review: Excellent First Thinking/Strategy Game for Kids Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this one recently for my eight year old (and myself) to enjoy and it truly took only a few minutes to explain it to him and we were off and loving it. More challenging than checkers and less complicated than chess makes it a very accessible game for an eight year old yet not too easy or complex such as can be the case for those two aforementioned games. I highly recommend it as it can help your child in a number of ways in terms of concentrating and focusing, thinking spatially, understanding the consequences of a move or moves, and introducing the concept of strategy.
Customer Review: An Oldie But Still a Goodie! Summary: 5 Stars
An oldie but a goodie! I always loved Othello and have a version from the 80's. I was psyched when my 11 year old niece asked for it for her birthday. It was hard to find it at the toy store but easy on Amazon. The Othello board now has little indented box areas to put your discs so they can't slide onto another box. This is a nice addition. What I didn't like was they took away the little clear covers that covered your discs when you wanted to put the game away, now the discs could fal all over inside the box. Othello is still a great game and this version is good.
Customer Review: Classic Summary: 5 Stars
The best games are usually the most simple. This game is simple, but that doesn't mean it's not challenging or fun. It's a good child/adult game, and I'd highly recommend this over some of the "gimmikicy" games out there. It can be played over and over with a lot of different variations on the outcome, and while a good player can win consistantly, like many decent games that don't rely on chance, this game can be played to ties or near ties if both people understand it. I think that makes it a better game. It's good for strengthening logical thinking.
Customer Review: game adaptation of a mediocre book Summary: 4 Stars
Overall a 4.5. Maybe its my set but the chips were missing the character faces. I couldnt tell which one was Iago, Othello, or Desdamona. And the poison was missing. Also, I dont understand how flipping the chips over recreates the story of the book. Itsa cool game and all but I dont like how they rounded the board on the corners. Used to be square. Liked it better. Also this game isnt much fun to play by yourself so if you dont have any friends or family you'll be staring at a pile of chips all night.
Customer Review: Game Dad Summary: 5 Stars
This game is one of strategy. Constant thinking about future moves and the consequences of it. This is not for the person whose mind wanders. One moment you have ten more of your colors showing than your opponents, the next your down by 4 and about to lose the game. The Game (board) is durable and well made. A very classy looking game. Even the box is well constructed. Will not wear out for a goooood long time. Overall a great game. Throughly recommended for its age group.
