Toys and Games Reviews of Naruto Ninja Challenge Playset with Interactive GlovesCustomer Review: Watch Out Summary: 3 Stars
This was one of the only toys my 12yo son specifically asked for this Christmas. Unfortunately, the gloves that you use to play this game did not fit his hands at all. The age listed on the box said 6 and up so maybe I should have realized that a glove that was designed for a 6 year old might not fit my almost teenager. Major Bummer.
The box sat half opened until a smaller friend came over and decided to try it out. Well, first we had to dig up batteries (not just 2 or 3 but something like 8 of them!) Then once it was turned on I was glad that they had not fit my son because the sound effects that came from them were quite annoying and rather loud. However, that was not the worst part, the worst part were the discs that the base unit shoots. They are fired at such a high velocity that I was concerned that someone or something would be seriously harmed. I was genuinely worried that a window would get broken. I happened to be hit in the head by one, and although it did not draw blood, or cause permanent damage, I definitely felt it. I am glad that nobody got a direct hit to the eye...
You have to be tough to take the abuse of the discs but still small enough to fit into the gloves... Kinda seems like a mis-match to me.
It turned out to be a bust at our house, but it does seem do what it was advertised to do. Seems well enough made but has not had enough use to really put it to the test. Overall, it turned out to be a let down.
Description of Naruto Ninja Challenge Playset with Interactive GlovesThe Naruto Ninja Challenge playset, inspired by Shonen Jump?s Naruto, the hit TV show, includes interactive gloves and chakra launcher. Kids can master the fighting techniques and skills the ninja characters learn at the training academy. There are two skill levels - ninja and master - plus three different ways to play. Kids can race the clock, battle friends or practice ninja training with the chakra launcher. Includes thirty ninja stars and two gloves! The Naruto Ninja Challenge is a game where players try to master a series of hand gestures in order to control the flow of plastic poker chip-like disks flying out of a wireless base unit. It's based on a popular Japanese comic book and cartoon series. The game comes with two gloves, though only one has sensors, two of which are located in the top of the glove and the other two are located in the palm. By touching these sensors with your other hand or against your body and building these gestures into combinations, the voice box on the glove with congratulate or admonish you. The glove communicates wirelessly to the base and so directs its movement. Get the hand signs right and the base will launch the discs around the room. If you get the sequences wrong, however, the base will turn and launch discs in your direction. Either way, you're going to be picking up a lot of these little disks. The games included are skill-level variations on making combinations during a time limit and executing specific combinations called out by the voice box. There's a bit of light assembly at the beginning and a test routine to make sure the glove is properly communicating with the base. We found it difficult to keep them in communication. This game will likely only be fun for devoted Naruto fans. It's powered by four AAA-size batteries in the glove and four AA-size batteries in the base, which are not included. Inside the box you'll find the base, a pedestal, four sheets of ice flames, two gloves and 30 disks. --Porter B. Hall
