Customer Review: Excitement for several ages

When I gave this gift to my 5-year old grandson, several of his older cousins (6-12, male and female) all wanted to play with this. They played for several hours and then we finally had to put the toy away so that our grandson could enjoy his new toy. It's been about two weeks now and he (and his siblings) are enjoying this toy very much. He plays with it everyday and has fun creating different objects.
It is well made and very durable (trust me - my grandsons are not real easy on toys). This one has been tried, tested, and passed with flying colors.

This toy is even better in person than online. It has many well-molded parts that fit together smoothly and has sophisticated detail to delight the heart of the (in this case) 4-year old recipient and his 6-yr old brother -- not to mention adults of various ages. There is a decided "wow" factor to this space toy that will spur any little boy's imagination into "infinity and beyond". The icing on the cake to his "green" grandma is the availability of "Frustration-Free Packaging" which benefits both the environment and adults' nerves on gift-giving day.

We have been happy with other toys in this series, and my five year old son loves the space shuttle. There are two complaints: the quality seems less than other models. Some pieces don't stay together, others don't open and close as they should. This is especially frustrating for a child this age.
I was also disappointed with the "worry free packaging" because it didn't show all the combinations as on the original toy box (that I recently saw in a toy store).
Overall this is a great toy, but I hope Matchbox and Amazon can make some improvements.

Bought this with the Amazon no frills packaging and what a welcome feature to be able to easily and simply open the box and start playing, without dealing with all that extra and wasteful plastic packing that comes with the toy from the manufacturer.
The one downside of this toy from a parent perspective is that the alien ship that comes with it has an annoying siren type noisemaker that can not be switched off. Once activated you have to listen to the whole siren string before it goes off by itself. My child loves it, though!!

I could not find this toy in stock at any stores right before the holidaze. When I found it here on Amazon with the Frustration-Free packaging option (and at a better price with free shipping) I was a little suspicious about what I was going to get, but it's EXACTLY the same toy you would get from a store without all the plastic, wires, tape and other obstacles. We just opened the box and dumped out the contents! My boys (ages 6 and 9)LOVE playing with this. More toys should be made available with this packaging option.
