Customer Review: Five year old has eyes for nothing else

My five year old absolutely adores this toy - he's usually very fickle with toys and doesn't stick with any one toy for very long, but this one has lasting power.
The frustration-free packaging was nice too (although with that packaging, it came *halfway* put together... but the instructions start at ground zero and aren't in color, so it was a little hard to figure out how to put the rest of it together).
It took him a while to figure out how to put the pieces together and pull them apart, but now he can do that, and he's *really* enjoying it. All-around great toy, to the point that I ended up getting him another mega rig set as well.

Well, we have only had it one day, but it has seen a good amount of use already! It has lots of little compartments, which my little boy loves. It does seem to snap apart unprovoked, but that is most likely due to him not fastening it properly.
I ordered the toy in Amazon packaging. I saved $5, and I was thrilled not to have to deal with all the packaging/fasteners, etc. I would have liked a color picture, though, as reference in how to build and play with the thing. I think my little boy would have liked to see the box, too, but he has enough imagination that he has managed to figure it out, I think.
It was not difficult to put together, though.

Santa brought this to my 5 year old son for Christmas this year...Great packaging (simple, recyclable). Very durable, lots of interesting parts that interchange, and you can use existing Matchbox Mega toys with this toy, too. He has a large Matchbox construction set that he was able to snap into place with parts from this space shuttle! The set comes with space people and an alien as well as all kinds of pieces that are realistic (we researched space crafts)! He plays with this constantly but we have to keep the small parts away from his baby sister. The only thing we dont like is that the alien ship sounds are too loud (there is no volume control).Customer Review: Endless hours of pretend play PLUS mix & match value with other Mega Rig sets!

I can't say enough about Matchbox's Mega Rig systems. We have the Mega Rig Construction set, Mega Rig Shark Adventure (ship set), and now the Mega Rig Space Shuttle set. What fun our 4-year-old twin boys have had with these sets! They love to mix and match the sets to make their own fantastic creations. They have had endless hours of fun, month after month, with them and especially love to play with them in the bathtub. My only complaint? The little stickers on the space shuttle set have not held up in the bath. But, they don't seem to mind. My only other wish is for Matchbox to create more of these sets. Perhaps an airplane/jet set? This is the best toy we have encountered in a long time. My son received it for his 5th birthday, and all the other toys have gotten tossed aside for this one. Even his classmates (he takes it - or parts of it - to show & tell every week), neighbors and friends are enthralled by this thing. Personally I don't like all the small detachable parts, but the kids LOVE the flexibility to create whatever their little minds can come up with.
This earns our household's vote for Toy Of The Year. We're buying it for all of our friends with kids. Add the stomp-on rocket coordinating piece, and grownups even get into the action!
