Customer Review: Islam may by the light for some, but not for me.

I thought that the doll saying "Islam is the light was THE most ridiculous thing I'd heard all year, and remember this was during the campaigning for president. I finally picked up my 2 yr. old daughter's doll and half listened figuring that there'd be nothing there. Well, I was wrong. "Islam is the light" comes out clear as day. I had 11 other adults in my family listen and they could hear it clearly across a large room. My mother-in-law took it to work with her, and several high school teachers had no trouble hearing it as well. Now, do I believe that all of the Christian education my daughter has received at home and at church is going to be ruined because of this doll? No. Am I going to take it away from her because this doll clearly says "Islam is the light"? No, she loves it and I love watching her play mommy. But, what bothers me is the parent company Mattel responded to my complaint with "It doesn't have any programmed words except 'momma'. However there is one sound that might sound like bright, might, night, or something similar." I lose all respect for a company that doesn't take responsibility for mistakes in their products. If this doll was supposed to only say momma and it clearly says momma then later says "Islam is the light", then that clearly is a product flaw and they should take responsibility for it. Does any of this mean that I have a problem with any islamic religion? No, it's not my choice of religion, but I respect that it is for others. I am just disappointed in Mattel and the way they handled this matter. Snopes has helped me a lot when it comes to determining if something is genuine or not, but in this case, the proof is in the baby. Snopes may say that it is false and the doll doesn't say this, but my daughter's doll does, my niece's doll does, as do several of the dolls taped on youtube and the ones on the shelves at my local WalMart. (We stood in the aisle and tested them out...even the demo has it) By the way, the comment made earlier about the daughter asking about the direction to Mecca 5 times a day...hilarious! I got such a kick out of that!

My daughter, now 4-years-old asked me the other day out of the blue, "Momma, what is the light?" I asked her what she meant and she said that her baby says something is the light but she couldn't figure out the first word. A 4-YEAR-OLD HEARS "ISLAM IS THE LIGHT"!!! She just doesn't comprehend the word "Islam" as it is not a religion we are involved with and therefore not a part of her vocabulary. But she has absolutely NO problem with the words "is the light." So either Mattel is lying and knows the dolls do this and won't claim any responsibility or they truly believe that the dolls don't say this and they need to hire some 4-year-olds for testing Product Quality!!
