This game is much better than what most people are putting in their reviews for this game. It is terrific! Sure, chess is long, which is why I put 4 stars. Also, in the areas where there is a lot of plastic, it's strong, but weak in areas like the knight's mace and the top of the bishop's staff (3 stars). And for the one at the very top that said there were no instructions and that you have to glue the board together, that person obviously bought a phony one.Customer Review: Brings the magic into thinking

I bought this for my family a while ago and we have been using it for a while.One of my kids is a complete Harry Potter fanatic, and the other is in all honors. Usually the two of them NEVER are around the other, but, they have something in common with this game.
The older one has known how to play chess for quite a while now, and it is great seeing her and her brother finnaly doing something together without fighting.
I love this game!!!

IF you got a Harry Potter kid and they like chess this is one nice buy. I picked this up a few weeks back and the kids in my club thought it was excellent "sweeeeeeeeettt". The board is just cheesy and you would want to have something better than that to really play well on it. We use the vinyl boards and it works very well with that. The plastic used is very hard and it is not too light on the pieces, hard to bust unless tossed or stomped on.Customer Review: Disappointed

I was very disappointed by this product. I had expected it to be much nicer and fanicer than the regular chess games. The board is folded into 4ths and does not lie flat. The pieces won't stay in place. Although it has the pieces that Harry Potter uses, you'd be better off to buy a cheap chess set. This is not up to the usual standard of the other Harry Potter products. Mattel didn't put much thought or time into this game.Customer Review: Good looking but not practical

For the price (under thirty dollars at some sites), the quality and details of the (albeit plastic) pieces are quite satisfactory. My kid and his friends definitely love this, but more as a toy than a chess set. The problem is the size. The pieces are too big, especially for kids, and the board is too small. The pieces kept getting knocked over inadvertantly. If the board had been 50% larger, I would have given it another star.
