Toys and Games Reviews of Harry Potter Wizard ChessCustomer Review: Quaint chess set for any player Summary: 5 Stars
My son recieved this last christmas. We have enjoyed many games on it since then. I was suprised by the quality of the pieces. They are molded of a durable plastic and shaped like the ones from the life-size game at the end of the first movie. They are large enough for younger players to easily grasp, however the knights are a little to large. Moving them does take some caution as they tend to knock over the other pieces. The board is made of hard plastic and folds to fit in the box. We really enjoy this game and intend to continue playing it for some years to come.
Customer Review: Wonderful concept, poorly executed Summary: 3 Stars
The pieces do look exactly like the pieces in the movie. They pieces are big which is a plus. Unfortunately they are made out of plastic. If you are buying this for a child who doesn't know how to play chess, the instructions are just the basics. You may want to think about getting another book that is more detailed. My biggest complaint about the toy is the chess board itself. It is made out of flimsy folded cardboard. I was expecting a nice wooden board at least. This is a nice toy for a Harry Potter fan, but is obviously over priced.
Customer Review: But Look at the Price Summary: 4 Stars
From what I've read of the existing reviews, it might be a good idea to IMPROVE the design of these inexpensive chess pieces. When I get my set I will probably toss the accompanying board and buy a bigger better one. I'll probably roughen the shiny plastic surfaces of the pieces with maybe a wire brush to give them sort of an antique feel. Then I'll fill the pieces with rock gravel buck shor or fishing sinkers and plaster of paris and glue thick felt on the bottoms. On a classy roomy board the set should be hefty and handsome.
Customer Review: Not real happy with this..... Summary: 2 Stars
O.K. it's chess - The pieces should have been molded of a heavier plastic, with a base on them - they are hollow. The box is completely cheesy, Really cheap and flimsy - It should have a heavier stock cardboard with a molded insert at the very least to store the game. The board is also a bit too small for the size of the pieces.
I like the look of the pieces, but they should be heavier. This game should have been designed to be sold as a real keeper - it was sold like a destined-for-the-trash toy.
Customer Review: Great present for Harry Potter Fans Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my nephew. I haven't opened the package yet, but based on the piece displayed, it looks like a well made set. It seems to be made of durable plastic. It looks just like the chess set from the first movie. I think my nephew will love it and that he will probably use it often. He is a hard kid to buy for so this should be a great gift for the kid who has everything. I haven't been able to find it any store, so if it is in stock, order it quickly.
