I've bought hundreds of products from Amazon and this is my first review. Why am I writing it??? Because I hope Mattel will see how much girls like Ello and will make many more sets.My daughter is a naive 8 1/2 and cannot stop saying how much she loves it. It's the first toy I've EVER given her that she has played with independently. Oh wiat -- she played with her cash register, too. She's mostly blind in one eye and her fine motor skills are not the best, so other small toys have been difficult for her. She got the knack of Ello quickly and is so very excited to be building things. We tried Lego Clickits but they didn't engage her highly developed sense of fantasy. After less than an hour with Fairytopia she had a queen fairy, a multi-room "castle" and magic wands for different purposes. I was grinning from ear to ear.
Her 7 year old, Bionicle-crazed brother came into her room to check out the action and had soon created a light saber, ant and dive bombing airplane!
This is a great toy and I do hope Mattel gets the message and adds additional sets regularly. Girls need and deserve this kind of entertainment!

My kids have played with Ello for about four years. They are now 7 and 10 and will still play with them for hours at a time. To be honest, I love playing with them too.
These toys are great for building creativity and spatial skills. They also go a long way to building hand strength in young children (important for writing). However, best of all, they are just a fun and very open ended toy that doesn't grow boring after a week like so many toys in this day and age do. It is one of few toys out there that doesn't do the playing for your kids. What they create and what their creations do is 100% up to them - awesome, awesome, awesome toy!
One of the best parts is that the sets are all fully compatible so you can combine all of them to make these amazing worlds.
Even my son likes to play with the Ellos... don't tell any of his friends though!

My daughter will be 3 in May and I just bought the Ello small fairy set to see how she would like it.Well,she loves it and spends a lot of time building things.We have 2 boys before her and my husband wont play much with girls' toys so he was playing with our boy-colored legos with her one day and I didnt really like that.I want her to be a lady even with 2 brothers so I'd heard that an alternative to legos for girls is the Ello so I decided to buy it.If your child likes to use her fine-motor skills a lot then this is the toy for her.I am a teacher and I think this is an educational toy as well because it enables a child to explore her creative side and there is also problem soving involved.I TOTALLY give this the thumbs up and will be buying her the larger set.Customer Review: Great toy to play WITH your kids

My daughters just got their Ello playsets for their 5th birthday. They were so- excited,as was I. I thought they would be able to create and play quietly for at least a half hour without any trouble. Well, I was wrong. The girls are unable to snap most of the pieces together by themselves. I think they were disappointed in how difficult it was. They can create the flowers and jewelry independently, but, need me to put the majority of the set together for them. They had fun playing with me, but, they lost attention quickly on their own. So, if your looking for something to do WITH your 5 yr. old child, this is a great toy!Customer Review: Not just for young kids, older kids love it too

This has been one of the greatest additions to our toydom. My three girls (bought this at ages 9 and 5 and 5, still using at 15, 11, 11) and sometimes my architect trained husband take over the living room, forget to eat and never tire of this toy. It has inspiring colors, shapes and is easy to use. Only limited by their imagination, they have built towers taller than themselves, spread their metropolis into other rooms and create the most amazing creatures and people. The challenge now is to find the perfect storage unit...(still looking!).
