Toys and Games Reviews of Disney Cars: Radiator Springs Mountain Challenge Track SetCustomer Review: Very disappointing for the price Summary: 2 Stars
My 4 year old son received this as a birthday present. My husband and I worked together for about an hour to get it together but we were able to do it. When we turned it on for the first time everyone was very excited. It worked great and my son was having a great time putting all of the cars in his collection in and watching them shoot around - we thought it was great!!! THEN...after a few rounds of playing (within the same day) pieces of the track started coming disconnected. No problem we just put them back. Then every minute or so my son was calling us to put it back together. This toy is a great idea but not well executed, especially for the near $40 price. We put the toy in the closet while we had company in the house and haven't taken it out yet. We are trying to decide what to do with it. Overall I was very disappointed and sorry that his grandmother spent the money on a toy that just isn't well made.
Customer Review: With our son, it won't matter if it's flimsy or not... Summary: 4 Stars
...since our six-year-old usually takes his toys apart after a few days and creates new things with the pieces. He's done this soooo many times, I now look for interesting aspects he can re-use, instead of looking at the as-packaged toy. It's amazing what he does with Dollar Tree train tracks, some wooden blocks, track from the Thomas Ultimate Set, and some Hot Wheels road - and a black Sharpie marker.
I did want to thank the folks who had problems with this for speaking out. I'm hoping they (Mattel, I'm lookin' at you !) fixed the design flaws between 'movie release toys' and 'video release toys', but after some thought, Beloved Hubby and I realized it wouldn't matter for our son. However, it is a major problem for kids who want this to work as-is. So here's hoping !
And thanks, everyone, for reviewing. It really does help the rest of us make our very important toy decisions.
Customer Review: this toy is very disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
it seems as if the parts do not fit properly. the parts are subject to lateral stresses, which cause the whole track to to become aligned improperly. the launcher is either under-powered, or the incline is too steep, because the car simply gets to the almost top of the incline section, and flops backwards; either onto the floor, or (if you're lucky) onto the track below where the car comes to an inverted sliding halt. i'm not sure how easy it was to put together, because none of the parts seemed to fit. my son liked it better before i finished putting it together, because then he wasn't disappointed because it didn't work. once i got all the pieces in place, and told him it was ready, he was crying moments later because it kept comming apart, and his "race" kept falling apart.
horrible, horrible toy. buy your kid a savings bond instead of this piece of junk.
Customer Review: JUNK YARD FODDER! Summary: 1 Stars
I also am glad some children were able to make this work... wish my kid was one of those. But as it is, I spent over an hour putting it together and none of it seems to stay together. The vibrating part shakes the rest of the track loose... we were only able to make it go round and round the track the very first time we used it and that was it! The track right in front of the vibrating piece comes off within seconds EACH TIME. Also, it is kind of dangerous... it has actually come close to taking my eye out! The car gets thrown through that vibrating part and sends it hauling [...] along the track only to fly off towards an unsuspecting victim. Hope we don't hear of an accident because of this corporately greedy piece of Wal-Mart JUNK!!! Geez, Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon... do you guys just sell ANYTHING the movies make... even after all these lousy reviews?
Customer Review: Not rocket science - just follow directions Summary: 5 Stars
My son got this for Christmas and loves it. Yes it took almost 1 and a half hours to put together, just don't do it with your kid helping, lose one piece and it's over. You do have to take your time, so relax (have an adult beverage) while you are doing it, it's not a race. As far as additional vehicles, by accident we found them here in Florida at Publix (local major grocer) in the baby/kids aisle. So far, at $3.99 each, the blue Dinoco Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson work fine. For those having problems with the spinabout turn, check the support arm under the cactus. Sometimes it has to be reset in it's slot closer (downhill) to the next track coupling. When batteries get low, car won't make it uphill so change them. No I am not an employee of the toy company. Just wanted to tell the naysayers and those having trouble, how to deal with it. GOOD LUCK !
