Toys and Games Reviews of Blokus Classics GameCustomer Review: We love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this game for one of my grandchildren for Christmas last year after reading the good reviews about it. She brought it up to our cabin on our vacation this summer and I also got a chance to play it. It was really fun! Since then I purchased one for my husband and I to have here, and I also got one for two more grandchildren. It is really fun for adults, but children have fun with it too. I would say kids under 8 need a little help to find where to put the pieces sometimes, but it is a great learning toy for them. It teaches some good thinking skills, and they can play it with their "own rules" with each other and have lots of fun too! If there are less than 4 people playing we play with two colors each, or in the case of three players we take turns playing the 4th color because you really need all the colors in play to make it work well. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone! Make sure you emphasize keeping good track of all the pieces so none get lost!
Customer Review: Great Fun and Educational Too! Summary: 5 Stars
I originally bought this game for my classroom to help my students develop thinking skills. When it first arrived, I took the game home to figure out how to play it before introducing it to my students--and I was hooked! My own children are ages 10 and 11 and they love the game (we are buying a game for home), but I teach students up to age 18 and they enjoy the game just as much. Educationally, it helps younger students develop a better understanding of spatial relations and planning ahead. For older students (and adults) it helps to develop various strategy skills.
Unlike most educational games, the rules are simple and once you've played it through one time (or watched it through one time) all your effort can go into plotting your moves. The game doesn't run out of possibilities, either; every game is different, even if you play with the same people over and over.
As an educator, parent, and game enthusiast, this was money well spent.
Customer Review: Excellent, Loved This Summary: 5 Stars
A friend of mine recently raved about this game. I had contemplated buying it several times and for one reason or another decided not to.
Imagine my delight at finding it at my favorite second-hand store for about the price of an ice cream cone! Someone was weeding out their game closet and I was happy to be the lucky person to reap the benefits.
I have only played this once but I loved it. My husband calls me 'Miss. Spacial' and this game is made for all the Miss. and Mr. Spacials out there. My son (four and a half), my daughter (seven and a half) and I played and my daughter won.
My son said it was boring but my daughter really liked it. It requires a bit of quiet thoughtfulness once you get to the end. He's not much on quiet thoughtfulness just yet.
I think this will be a great game to play with the grandparents. I'm looking forward to playing again.
11/2009: It's still good!
Customer Review: Awesome for literally everybody Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, let's describe the people at home who plays this:
-Dad=Doesn't like game of chance
-Mom=Loves Tetris and family games
-10 years old boy=Likes to win
-5 ys old girl=Likes to be with Mom and Dad
And we play, and play, once a day, twice sometimes, and when we don't want to play we usually only play with the little girl and teach her how to "attack" in the game.
The Dad loves this game because you actually have to think, it doesn't matter your luck and even if you make a mistake you can turn the tables at your favor.
The Mom just wants that nobody blocks her, because all that she wants is to make the perfect strategy to put all her pieces.
I really recommend this game for anybody, even if you are totally different from us.
You get better over time, the battles heat up :) and nobody complains or whines.
The only thing is be careful not to lose a piece, you will cry if you do.
Customer Review: We love this game! Summary: 5 Stars
We love this game! I bought it when my kids were 4 and 6, and we have been playing it for the past two years. It is non-verbal, so it is a fun game that even a pre-reader can enjoy. I especially like it because:
* we have to think and puzzle out where to fit pieces, be able to look at shapes in different ways/angles
* it is a game my youngest can play that doesn't bore me to tears. I actually have to pay attention and use my brain.
* there is no end-point in the difficulty. We can play as a family, just kids, just adults, and it is always challenging.
I have given Blockus to several friends as birthday presents, and have only heard good things back from them and their children. I bought another copy today to re-give to a nephew's kids for Christmas. We gave it to them last year, and on Thanksgiving they told me they love it, but lost the pieces - could we please give them another set this year?
