Toys and Games Reviews of Blokus Classics Game

Customer Review: 3-D Tetris
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the third time in two years I've purchased this game. Why so many? The original game was purchased for school. We had extra money to use for educational games, and Blokus jumped out at me, with its brightly colored box. At first, the students weren't that interested (it's not electronic), so the teachers decided to tackle the game. It became an obsession. In short time, students began to edge their way to a corner and take over the game. Again, as much fun as this is to play, it's also a great way to get work from students before they sort out their pieces. Bribe, you wonder? Maybe.

What a fantastic way to think critically, offensively and defensively. Blokus promotes planning and strategy in a fun and playful way. It creates alliances "I won't corner you if you go in another direction." Players (kids especially) learn to handle confrontations when moves are in short order.

Blokus is not a game to gather dust in the back corner of a shelf. It challenges players of all ages and levels. Most surprisingly, the students who I thought would play easily (because of their scholastic abilities) were the ones who had to think hardest. It's a great tool for geometry, spatial relationships, and artistic creations!

Customer Review: Blockus Rocks.
Summary: 5 Stars

Blockus is one of those games that gets under your skin in a good way. You want to play it. It's addictive. You can master it fairly easily if you understand a few simple principles about how to control spaces and how to place pieces on the board.

For example, things that can help considerably are identifying the pieces you have and reminding yourself to put the pieces that will probably cause you trouble the most in the late game, put them down on the board asap. A real complex shape is not likely to get placed late in the game, and there's a limited amount of room depending on how everyone's laying down pieces.

It really is a fantastic game and it's given my family no end of fun and many hours of play and conversation. It's one that even someone not trying that hard can win. Sometimes we play purely on instinct rather than strategy and it's just as interesting and rewarding.

If you just can't get Chess, you'll probably be able to get this. If you want to try it out first, try the Blokus online game, which is available at the Blockus Web site. Try searching for Blockus Online and see what you get. You can play several different kinds of Blockus, as well as the travel version online, and that's addicting as well.

Customer Review: If I could only play one game, this might be it!
Summary: 5 Stars

At the last minute, I really wanted to find a 'fun' item for my 19-year-old college sophomore for Christmas. I googled and read reviews on several games, but kept coming back to Blokus, even though I had never heard of it. He loved it-----we (he and his parents) played it several times every day we were home for the holidays. It's fun if you're strategy-minded, looking for the optimum move to advance yourself; it's fun if you just like the challenge of trying to play all your pieces; it's fun if you just like seeing all the pretty colors fill up the board. In spite of some of the reviews I read, we played it almost exclusively with just 3 people, not using the 4th color at all, and using the full board (one review suggested using less of the board with less that 4 players----we may try that in the future). We also tried playing it with 2 people, each using two colors----that was fun. And once we tried our own variation, where we each played our smallest piece in the center of the board to start, and worked out. That was fun!

I plan to give this game as a gift, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Customer Review: Fabulous Game for All Ages - From 4 to 100!
Summary: 5 Stars

BLOKUS IS A WONDERFUL GAME FOR A FAMILY OR EVENT WITH MIXED AGES!

So many board games favor older children/adults, but this is a true game of strategy that even smaller kids can do well and win. My kids were 7 & 12 when we first got this game 3 years ago and the first thing I noticed is that my 7 year old could beat his sister and I.

We have owned it for 3 years and still play it - the game never gets old, we just get better!

Our family loves logic games such as Tetris and chess, but the difference with Blokus is that the rules are so simple that a 4 to 5 year old can learn to play easily. It is the one game that we own that I can bring out in a mixed crowd of small children to adults and you can not predict the winner!

I would highly recommend this game to parents that are trying to sharpen their children's logical/reasoning skills; plus to grandparents or others that need a game that can be played with a crowd of mixed ages. And for the grandparents, it is not a game that is so complicated that the kids understand it and you don't!

Customer Review: Fun game to play for 4 people
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fun family game that needs 3-4 people to play. I strongly recommend 4 people, as any less makes it too easy for everyone to win (thus having two+ winners at the end of the game).

The object of this game is to get rid of all your colored tiles. If you have any tiles left over at the end of the game, you count up the blocks, and that's your score. The person with the lowest score wins.

You can play this game with kids, wives, and buddies. This game does not demand too much attention, so you can casually talk while playing this game too. The game is strategic though, and also very addictive. When you finish one game, you'll all want to play it "one more time", then "one more time" again.

I bought this game for $30 in the local mall, but it's nice to see Amazon will delivery it with FREE SHIPPING for even less money (AND NO TAX). I strongly recommend this game. You'll definately look at it and say "I bet it took $1 to make this game", but the game is so much fun to play. My family asks that I bring this game every time we have a game night.
