Customer Review: UGGG!!!!! too much stress

I bought a new laptop about a month ago. My youngest daughter age 6 really wanted an i-pod like her older siblings and we thought this was a nice alternative for her age at a fraction of the cost (we paid $[...]) Had trouble installing software and Mattel help line tried unsuccessfully to assist after verifing system was compatible. We finally figured out the problem and successfully installe software by googling the troubleshoot. After the software was installed it simply said to plug doll and dock into USB and nothing happened. Called Mattel again who suggested plugging the doll directly into the USB skipping the docking station. Still nothing. Called Geek Squad at Best Buy and they had no possible explanation except the unit might be bad. Exchanged at Target for a new one and still nothing happened. Mattel finally simply agreed to send coupons in the amount of purchase price for future Mattel purchase. Three days spent on this, and today I am going to go buy an i-pod.....what I should have done to begin with!Customer Review: Kaia's mom

I bought this MP3 player as a Christmas gift for my 6 year old daughter. She loved it. I loaded all of her Hannah Montana and High School Musical CDs on it as well as some other songs that I ordered through Amazon.com and she listened to it for hours. This MP3 player was her best Christmas gift as all of her other presents have either broken or been relegated to the bottom of the toy box.
My husband and I like that fact that we can extend the GB by adding a memory card. We looked at several other MP3 players before settling on this one because it was pretty unique. It even came with a couple of Barbie Girl songs. One of the down sides to this MP3 player is that the interchangeable pieces pop off pretty easily or it could have been my daughter. Another thing is we have not been able to figure out the Barbie Girl website. Mattel gives you a free 30-day subscription to the website, but we did not use it.
Overall, this is a great MP3 especially for the price.

UPDATE: I GUESS I JINXED US BY WRITING THIS GOOD REVIEW. THE TOY BROKE THE NEXT DAY. I HAVE RETURNED IT AND BOUGHT MY DAUGHTER A "REAL" MP3 PLAYER (THE SONY) RATHER THAN THIS TOY. UNFORTUNATELY, I BOUGHT SEVERAL ACCESSORY PACKS AT TARGET THAT HAVE BEEN OPENED, SO THEY ARE NOT RETURNABLE....
SAVE YOUR MONEY!
I was very nervous considering some of the negative reviews written abou the 512mb version. My daughter has only had this player for 1 week but so far she loves it. She loves listening the music she enjoys (and we approve of) without having to drag out her portable CD player. She also likes the website (just remember to save the codes from any accessory packs).
My husband was able to load songs both from Napster and her CDs easily.
I wish there was an available AC adapter rather than charging via a USB cable through the computer. This is only a minor inconvenience though.
Overall, I highly recommend.

This was the top item on my daughter's Christmas list, but we didn't think we would be able to give it to her b/c it is not mac compatible. Since we are total softies we actually broke down and bought PC emulation software in the hopes that we would be able to make the MP3 player work with our Mac. It didn't work. But here is the good news......If you have access to a PC (at work, a friend or family member, etc.) just one time. You can hook the MP3 player to their computer to set up the required passwords. After that you can use the MP3 player to access everything that you want at the Barbie Girls web site from your Mac at home.
And to make things even better it is incredibly easy to put songs on the MP3 player from your Mac. (and you don't have to corrupt your Mac with PC software!!!!!!)
My daughter uses her Barbie Girls MP3 player constantly and LOVES it!!!!!!!

We gave this MP3 to my 8-year-old daughter, who loves Barbie Girls, for Christmas and she loves it! I'm fairly new to the MP3 player scene, but from what I can tell, it has been a great item. We had absolutely no trouble loading the installation software onto our computer. We did have some trouble getting songs loaded onto the player at first, but that was because of our own ignorance and inexperience. After we figured it out, we have not had any trouble loading songs onto the player. It's not that educational of a toy unless you're going to load classical music onto the player and give quizzes afterwards. It's great for entertainment and I'd rather have my child plugged into this than the television, video games, or computers. I've even tried this out myself and I have to admit that it's been a lot of fun! A great MP3 player for a girl who's not quite ready to take care of the real thing!
