Toys and Games Reviews of Apples to Apples Party Box - The Game of Hilarious ComparisonsCustomer Review: Perfect for family game nights! Summary: 5 Stars
Apples to Apples is anything but "just another game"; it's a new game every time. The possibilities are truly endless in this game. The game comes with hundreds of green and red cards. In a standard game, players each begin with 7 cards and each player takes turn being the "judge", as they call it. The judge plays a green card, and players play cards that match the green card as closely as possible. The judge then selects which card he/she feels best matches the green card. Apart from the totally random and hilarious cards involving people, places, history, animals, etc, there are even cards that begin with the word "my", which truly makes the game personal because these cards make the judge rule completely on experience alone. As I said earlier, the game isn't always the same because you can pretty much make up your own rules (the game actually points out a few other ways you can play). You can deal green cards, rather than red cards, to the players and have the judge pick the best green card rather than vice versa or you can play opposites where players try to come up with the exact opposite of any green card. This has to be one of the greatest family/social games ever. Hours of fun and hilarity for everyone!
Customer Review: Could be fun but not for everyone. Summary: 3 Stars

I had high hopes for Apples to Apples. I opened the box and was
impressed with the amount of cards that are included. I also liked
that it really is a card game and there are no little pieces to lose
or gimmicky little spinning arrows to break. So playing with 4 people,
including my 11-yr-old son, we read the instructions and they were
quite easy to understand so we got started playing within a few
minutes.
I do understand the potential for this to be a funny game. However, I
think if it is played very literally it can be informative but really,
not a barrel of laughs. Now, I can see certain groups of people that
this would work great for. The particularly clever folks would get a
kick out of it. The slightly inebriated could, too. I think everyone
has to be on the same wavelength though so keep that in mind when
deciding who to invite over for a Friday night game night.
Customer Review: Fun Game if Customized Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this game on eBay and so far it's pretty fun, at least the first game because after a while you can feel your throat closing up because of the arguing.
Here is a fun tip:
1. Go through the Red Cards and take out anything that is difficult to understand or is not as fun to have. There is a pretty good amount of cards that are Actors or Celebrities from a long time ago. If you don't know their personality or who they were it is pretty pointless to have them around. For Example, Elizabeth Taylor, an actress from 1932. Really??? 1932...come on. Unless you are a playing with seniors that were born around the 1910's it is pretty pointless to have it around.
2. DON'T THROW THE CARDS AWAY!!!! Take a sharpie and whiteout, scribble the description and white out the name or object. Then write anything you want. For Example...A place that it is known to your peers...a near town or the county that you reside, Family members, pets, other animals not in the cards like beavers...lol....beavers.
First think if it will be funny or not, if not then what's the point. Right?
3. Mix the customized cards in with the others and have at it.
Customer Review: Family Fun Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This game is a good one for family members to get together to play while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner to cook! It inspires good conversation, laughter, fun, and is a great way to bring a group together to bond over the holidays. There's not a whole lot I can say about the game that has not already been said, as I see some wonderful reviews here that are in great depth. But I would just say this is one to keep handy for when the relatives come (or friends of course), for gatherings where you have a good size group to play for a while. I didn't quite enjoy this game as much as Scattergories, but it's still quite fun in it's own right. I find that with games like this, a larger group is always best (probably 5+ people). Aside from the holidays, I typically do not entertain that large of a group, hence the suggestions for playing it at those times. So, grab some hot cocoa, gather around the fireplace, and compare Apples to Apples!
Customer Review: Great "Catalyst" adult party game Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is an easy to play, easy to follow, party game for adults mainly (possibly older teens, but they probably won't want to be that open) that helps rekindle what I consider a dying trend. That trend is social interaction, chat, laughs, and open ended fun for small or large groups in a party setting. Not much really in the educational rating, but it's refreshing to find something that gets everyone involved, instead of simply sitting around watching a movie. I'm actually more a fan of the DVD based games like "Shout about Movies" which don't use cards like this, but still it's a winner. Depending on the crowd you have assembled (and the level of interaction) the game can be innocent fun or even downright bawdy in the interpretational aspects of gameplay. A small price to pay for something that gets people in a social setting doing what we were supposed to do (before TV and game consoles) talk, play and have fun. Enjoy!
