Customer Review: Fun -- even in the classroom
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I took this game into my freshman composition class and had the students incorporate it into the previous weeks' lessons on definition, description, metaphor, compare and contrast, etc. Many of them had already played it (which made explaining the game easier). I think the best part is that I was able to "tweak" the rules in order that the cards could be used for pedagogical purposes. I'm sure I'll use the game again in this or another class, so I just leave it in my office -- where my colleagues are free to use it as well.

My game went like this:
Each group of two takes a set of subject cards, and then a judge (either me or the group who won the last round) picks an adjective card and writes it on the board. Then the groups go through their cards and decide which subject best fits the adjective. Finally, the judge decides which subject card works "best" and the group who chose that card has to say why they picked it over their other cards.
Conversely, you could have each student pick a subject card at random and then write a short paragraph on how it could possibly be matched with the adjective written on the board.

Customer Review: The MOST boring game I have ever played!
Summary: 1 Stars

I was shocked when we opened this game up and started playing. With all the positive reviews here I honestly thought it would be at least decent. Boy, was I wrong. There is no thinking at all, the tempo of the game is super slow and no one was laughing. We played this two times - once with 4 people, once with 8 people. It wasn't fun either time. Basically all the game is - one person is the judge and picks a green card. Each other player has 7 red cards. They find the card that most accurately describes the green card, tosses it in the middle and then the judge shuffles them and decides which one they think is closest. That's it! Then you the next judge has to reshuffle and hand out more cards to everyone and there is a lot of wasted time inbetween each boring hand. I don't know if people that like this game don't normally play games but we are a large extended family who loves to play Catch Phrase, Scattagories, Pictionary, Cranium, Taboo, Tribond, Baulderdash, Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture and so forth. If you are like us, don't bother with this mindless game. This is a VERY boring game compared to any of them. If you are a family that thinks there aren't other games out there for the entire family with younger kids look for Pictionary Jr, Cadoo, Family Feud, Cranium, Whoonu, Outburst Jr, etc... before this one. Heck, I would play Candyland before Apples to Apples.

Customer Review: Simply the best
Summary: 5 Stars

In my collection of well over a hundred games, Apples to Apples has proved to be the best buy for my money. It is my most played and most requested party game. If you could only have one party game on your shelf, this one should be it.

I have never seen anyone walk away from this game having not enjoyed it. In fact, those that choose to sit out at first (and face it, there are always one or two in a large group) end up inching closer and closer until they finally ask to join in. I brought this game to a wedding last summer and the guests ended up playing it all night after the reception was over. Lately, I have chosen not to bring out Apples to Apples until after we have played several other games because once a group gets started with this game, they don't want to stop playing!

This game is best played in a group of 5-10. We have actually tried it with as many as 19, but it becomes a little unweildy at that point. We have played with all ages, from 7yrs up through "Older Than Dirt," and it has hasn't disappointed.

In my years of serious gaming, Apples to Apples has retained its replayability for me. I was hooked from the beginning, but unlike so many other games, this is one that I can still pick up and play without going into auto-pilot mode. I cannot recommend this stimulating and engaging game highly enough.

Customer Review: Great Party Game
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've been playing Apples to Apples since it first came out, several years ago. It's the perfect party game: you can learn how to play it just by watching one round, but every game is different, depending on the players.

The basics: there's a box of green cards -- adjectives, and of red cards -- nouns. Players take turns being the judge. On each round, the judge pulls out a green card, and each of the other players throws in one of the red cards in his or her hand. For example, the judge could draw "Obnoxious," and the players could throw in "My Family," "Telemarketers," "E-Mail Spam," and "Eggplants." The judge would then choose which red card is the best match, in his or her opinion. The player whose red card wins gets to keep the green card.

It's that simple. You win when you've collected five (or an agreed-upon number) green cards. The fun is in the weird and hilarious things people will throw, and the bizarre choices judges will make.

Anyone who likes party games and board games should have a copy of Apples to Apples in the game closet. It's a classic.

Customer Review: Fun family and friends game
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great game, easily learned and played by younger players. Since it's hard to know what a game is like without knowing how to play it, im going to try to explain it too you.
Its simple: each player has seven RED cards with names of people, places or things on them. A GREEN card is randomly picked from a pile and set on the table: each GREEN CARD has a characteristic of an object or person, such as "Graceful" "Wild" "Neat" "Ancient", to name a few. Each person has to pick the RED card (out of their seven cards) that best matches with the GREEN card on the table, like the "pushups" red card would fit well with the "exhausting" green card, etc. Once everyone has placed one red card in the middle with the green card, a judge (assigned at the beginning of each round, so you take turns) picks the card that they think matches best, and the person that had that card gets a point. What makes this game fun is, like a previous reviewer said, is that there are no wrong answers, you can pick whatever you want. There also 5 or six variations to the game which can be VERY fun. May I warn you though, this game cannot be played with less than three players, and isn't really fun unless you have 5 or more, so bring friends over to try it out. I hope my review and explanation helped anyone considering buying it..
