Customer Review: Lots of Fun Even With Very Young Kids

The "junior" version appears to be the same game as the adult version with the words that young kids wouldnt know removed. This doesnt in any way impair the fun for adults, its basically the same game. In other words, this is a "junior" edition done right.
Its a simple game. One player is the "judge" (you take turns) and draws a green adjective card. Players pick and play a noun card from their own hand of five cards, and the judge picks the noun card that is the best fit with the adjective card, and that player with the card the judge thinks is the best fit gets to keep the green card. Winner is the first player with X green cards. (We play till 7 or 10.) Players then draw a new red card, and the new judge draws a green card. For example, if the adjective is "attractive" and my choices from my hand of 5 noun cards are "hammer head shark" "garbage truck" "flower" "rock" and "baby sitter," then flower would be the logical try to win a point, while flashing the "baby sitter" card privately to the wife as a joke. Or if my six year old boy was the judge, I would just pick hammer-head shark and explain that its "pretty" because its head looks so cool. I would win that hand too :)
There are various other rules, but its natural and easy to invent family variations. For example, in my family, a player can declare "opposite" when they play their card, and the judge can pick the opposite card only if they think that none of the normally played cards are any good.
Its a 3 player minimum game, but there is more likely to be steady entertainment value with 4 or more players.
Part of the fun of the game is the players explaining why their nouns make sense. My six year old's explanations *constantly* crack me up. However, one downside is that various members of the family can play favorites. My six year old son almost never gives anyone else but me a card. While I understand his thought processes better than the other family members (see my hammerhead shark example above), its also because he plays favorites. You could play with the cards being annonymous (in fact, maybe your even supposed to, I forget), but then you would lose the funny explanations.
You *CAN* play and enjoy the game with a non-reader, and in fact I do that. However, you might find it a little annoying reading them their 5 noun cards every turn -- or in the case of my six year old, 3-4x every turn!
