I haven't every used Pixos so I can't compare, but I am relatively happy with this purchase. My 9 year old son and 7 year old daughter have really enjoyed playing with it. The beads do smell strongly of glue, though, so watch out for that! I just wish it had a better organizer/tray. The lid doesn't really snap shut, should you drop it there will be beads EVERYWHERE!! I will probably invest in a little fishing box or something to put them in. Also, the pen jams a lot, but we have found the good ole tweezers work as good as anything else. All in all my kids really like it and I am pleased as well.Customer Review: Wow what a HIt!

I bought this for a Christmas gift for my 5 yr old and 8 yr old daughters. They love it! 2 years ago I had purchased the aqua dots for them and they were both devastated when they were recalled. I wasn't sure how well these would work but they are awesome! Much cheaper in price then the Pixos and work just as well if not better. They are playing with them so much I just purchased another set and a refill set. I love giving them gifts that they can show their creativity and better yet make presents for friends and family. This has a great concept, as I was looking for something that was difference from Pixos given the reviews. This one is not too great either. I am glad I only paid $8 for it when it was on a great Amazon deal. I would NOT pay more than $10 for it. The beads do stick together after about 24 hours, but the pen does not function well at all. If you don't mind putting the beads in by hand, this would be fun, but the pen should not even be included. It sure doesn't seem like over 1,000 beads, either. I got this for my daughter (5) for xmas and she loves it and already needs for beads. She is able to use the templates and create on her own but the pen it too tricky, not just for her but me as well. When the bead comes out when you want it to it doesn't go where you need it to be. No problem, just place the beads with your fingers. Even better actually because her younger brother (3) likes to make things too, then there is no argument over who gets the pen.Customer Review: A pleasant surprise

I didn't have big expectations when we used this activity for some rainy day fun. It actually proved to be entertaining for my 6 year old daughter. She wanted to make several projects in sucession and even my 12 year old son got into the action. The beads take a lot longer than the recommended 10 minutes to dry and patience required can sometimes be hard to find but overall we enjoyed the kit. The added plus was the eye-hand coordination involved.
