Customer Review: Great concept, poor workmanship, sensors don't work at all

This toy is a great concept, and the ipod connection is a great idea. The "speakers" on top of the device are fake, there is just one speaker on the bottom of the unit. The sensors, the things that make the drum noises, didn't work at all. This was a gift from a somewhat distant relative, so we can't really ask for the receipt. And anyway, the packaging really got torn apart, being as it requires a surgeon, an engineer, and an auto mechanic to get at it.
Fresh batteries did not help. Everything works except for the main component of the toy, the sensors. What a piece of garbage. My son was so disappointed.
Blue Man Group should be sad to see their brand tarnished by this junk that not even they could fashion into an instrument.
**Update: finally got it exchanged, and it is fun for a few minutes, kids don't play with it much. I guess they got tired of looking at it when it didn't work. Big hassel. Bad product. Company reps on phone not helpful at all.

This was the ONLY thing my 9 year old son asked for for Christmas. When we unpackaged it on Christmas morning...the only way we could get it to work was through the headphones...the exteral speakers did not work. We replaced batteries and did everything we could to fix it. We contacted the manufacturer who said they had no technical support for this item and that we should return it to where we got it. When we contacted Amazon about getting a replacement, we were informed that they no longer had the item. My only choice was to return the item and get a credit and buy it elsewhere. I was only successful finding it on the internet for 3 times the original price. So instead of returning my son's main Christmas gift, I am stuck with a defective gift that I paid $60 for.Customer Review: Pleasantly Surprised

This is the only thing my daughter really keyed in on for Christmas 06. She never wavered, so I ordered it as her big gift from Santa. My husband thought it would be a bust and she wouldn't play with it. She has not stopped playing with it, making her own beats, "writing" her own songs with beats and lyrics. She took it to school today to show for "favorite gift" show and tell. She is six, soon to be 7. She immediately said, "maybe she could get the keyboard for next Christmas" and when I reminded her that her birtday was coming much sooner and maybe she could get it then, she was thrilled. She also wants a microphone to plug into it as well. She seems to be loving it.Customer Review: Great Concept and works great

This keyboard is amazing. I bought it for my daughter and it can do all kinds of things.
I agree the packaging to open is tough but what product is not these days.
It is so fun kids can pretend they are in a orchestra or even add melodies and instruments to songs through the MP3 player feature.
Sure it does not teach anyone how to use a keyboard but it never advertised that it can.
Each tube does something different when you wave your hand in front of it (drums, change melodies,etc.
Way more fun than an average keyboard and can also double as a mp3 speaker.

My eight-year-old son received this as a Christmas gift. He spent a considerable amount of time playing with it upon opening it and quite often since then. The item was ready to go--no assembly, although the box was a little tricky to open. He ultimately took it with him to "jam" with his twenty-four-year-old cousin and had a blast. He has been to two BMG shows and was thrilled to receive this gift. While not intended for professional musicians--it is a TOY--it has been ideal for his use. I highly recommend it for the fun factor and as a creative outlet.
